\n\tRob Halford<\/a> talks the inspiration behind Judas Priest<\/a>\u2019s heavy metal classic \u201cBreaking the Law\u201d in an exclusive clip from the band\u2019s upcoming documentary<\/a> The Ballad of Judas Priest ahead of its world premiere this week.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe song, released in 1980 on Judas Priest\u2019s British Steel, was recorded amid the British working class\u2019 uprising against Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher\u2019s conservative government.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u2018Breaking the Law\u2019 is a revolution song,\u201d Halford said in the clip. \u201cYou\u2019d watch the news every night and you see all this conflict going on. With the pain and the suffering of some of the British working class people. Rioting and striking because of their rage.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tAs for the song\u2019s music video, featuring Judas Priest robbing a bank with loud guitars instead of guns in order to steal a British Steel gold record, Halford added, \u201cWe\u2019re not going into the bank to steal the money, we\u2019re going into the bank to steal the album. Maybe it was just a metaphor of you cannot cage this music, you cannot put this music behind bars.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIn addition to Halford and other band members, The Ballad of Judas Priest features interviews with Billy Corgan, Lzzy Hale, Run-DMC\u2019s Daryl McDaniels, Anthrax\u2019s Scott Ian, and Tom Morello, who serves as co-director of the documentary alongside Sam Dunn.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201c\u2018Breaking the Law\u2019 is like some Ice Cube shit, if you read the lyrics,\u201d McDaniels says in the clip.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Ballad of Judas Priest\u00a0will trace the heavy-metal band\u2019s half-century legacy, from its roots in Birmingham, England, to its climb to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. With the arrival of 2024\u2019s\u00a0Invincible Shield<\/a>,\u00a0Judas Priest became the first metal act to release albums 50 years apart, as their debut LP,\u00a0Rocka Rolla,\u00a0was unleashed in 1974. The band has put out 19 studio albums in that span.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe documentary, which will premiere at this week\u2019s 2026 Berlin International Film Festival, also\u00a0boasts interviews with Dave Grohl, Kirk Hammett, Jack Black, and the late Ozzy Osbourne.\u00a0<\/p>\n
