\n\tThe first image from \u201cThe Idiot(s),\u201d directed by Ma\u0142gorzata Szumowska<\/a>, who has twice won the Berlinale\u2019s Silver Bear, and Micha\u0142 Englert<\/a>, has been released.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThe Idiot(s)\u201d stars \u201cWhite Lotus\u201d breakout Aimee Lou Wood, Johnny Flynn, who is in Berlin with \u201cA Prayer for the Dying,\u201d Vicky Krieps<\/a>, who won a best performance prize at Cannes for \u201cCorsage,\u201d and Christian Friedel, who was also in \u201cWhite Lotus,\u201d as well as leading Oscar winner \u201cThe Zone of Interest.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tCAA Media Finance represents the film\u2019s North American rights, while The Match Factory<\/a> sells the film internationally.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe story is based on the novel \u201cThe Gambler\u2019s Wife: A True Story of Love, Risk, and the Woman Who Saved Dostoyevsky\u201d by Andrew D. Kaufman, published in 2021, which follows the lives of the famous writer Fyodor Dostoyevsky and his wife Anna during a period that inspired him to write \u201cThe Idiot\u201d \u2014 at the time a commercial flop, but today, considered one of the greatest novels in the history of literature.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe film is co-written by Szumowska and Englert together with Kasper Bajon and Br\u00edd Arnstein. Englert also is in charge of cinematography. The producers are Ilya Stewart, Vladimir Zemtsov and Lota Dascioraite.<\/p>\n

\n\tSzumowska is a two-time Silver Bear winner at the Berlinale for \u201cMug\u201d (2018) and \u201cBody\u201d (2015), and won the Locarno Special Jury Prize for \u201c33 Scenes from Life\u201d (2008). Englert was the cinematographer for all three films.<\/p>\n

\n\tSzumowska and Englert co-directed \u201cWoman Of\u2026\u201d (2023) and \u201cNever Gonna Snow Again\u201d (2020), which both premiered in competition at the Venice Film Festival. Englert was a recipient of the Sundance cinematography award for \u201cLasting\u201d (2013).<\/p>\n

\n\tThe film is produced by Gold Rush Pictures and Hype Studios. <\/p>\n

\n\tGold Rush Pictures slate includes \u201cClub Zero,\u201d \u201cThe Entertainment System Is Down,\u201d \u201cAn Unfinished Film,\u201d \u201cThe Fin,\u201d \u201cThe Light\u201d (Das Licht), \u201cGlenrothan,\u201d \u201cDisappearance\u201d and \u201cRosebush Pruning.\u201d Hype Studios is a Paris and Los Angeles-based production company, known for \u201cPersian Lessons\u201d (2020) and the Palme d\u2019Or nominee \u201cLimonov: The Ballad of Eddie\u201d (2024).<\/p>\n

\n\tWood is represented by CAA and Independent Talent, and Flynn is represented by CAA and United Agents.
