{"id":471493,"date":"2026-02-16T06:40:07","date_gmt":"2026-02-16T06:40:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/471493\/"},"modified":"2026-02-16T06:40:07","modified_gmt":"2026-02-16T06:40:07","slug":"tre-johnson-the-former-washington-o-lineman-dies-at-54","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/471493\/","title":{"rendered":"Tre&#8217; Johnson, the former Washington O-lineman, dies at 54"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Feb 15, 2026, 10:35 PM ET<\/p>\n<p>WASHINGTON &#8212; Tre&#8217; Johnson, the former standout <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/team\/_\/name\/wsh\/washington-commanders\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Washington<\/a> offensive lineman who went on to become a Maryland high school history teacher, died Sunday. He was 54.<\/p>\n<p>In a Facebook post, Johnson&#8217;s wife, Irene, said he died during a short family trip.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is with a heavy heart that I inform you that my husband, Tre&#8217; Johnson, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly &#8230; during a brief family trip,&#8221; she wrote. &#8220;His four children, Chloe, EJ, EZ and Eden, extended family, friends, and I are devastated and in shock.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img class=\" lazyload lazyload\" data-image-container=\".inline-photo\" height=\"320\" width=\"570\"\/>Tre&#8217; Johnson spent all but one of his nine NFL seasons in Washington.\u00a0Jamie Squire\/Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>After starring at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/college-football\/team\/_\/id\/218\/temple-owls\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Temple<\/a>, Johnson was drafted by Washington with the 31st pick in 1994. He played for Washington through 2000, spent 2001 with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/team\/_\/name\/cle\/cleveland-browns\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Cleveland<\/a> and returned to Washington for a final year in 2002. The 6-foot-2, 328-pound guard was a Pro Bowl selection in 1999.<\/p>\n<p>After football, he became a history teacher at the Landon School in Bethesda, Maryland.
