Angelina Jolie\u2019s\u00a0next chapter <\/a>could unfold far from Hollywood.<\/p>\n

Jolie has been waiting for her twins, Vivienne and Knox, to reach adulthood before making a long-considered move abroad.<\/p>\n

The \u201cEternals\u201d star \u201cnever wanted to live in L.A. full-time,\u201d a source previously told\u00a0People<\/a>. \u201cShe didn\u2019t have a choice because of the custody arrangement with [ex-husband] Brad [Pitt].\u201d<\/p>\n

Vivienne and Knox, the youngest of her six kids<\/a>, turn 18 on July 12.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe\u2019s eyeing several locations abroad,\u201d the insider added. \u201cShe\u2019ll be very happy when she\u2019s able to leave Los Angeles.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jolie\u2019s decision to move abroad is rooted in one priority \u2014 her children.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen you have a big family, you want them to have privacy, peace, safety,\u201d she told\u00a0the Hollywood Reporter<\/a>\u00a0in 2024.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have a house now to raise my children, but sometimes this place can be \u2026 that humanity that I found across the world is not what I grew up with here.\u201d<\/p>\n

She added, \u201cI\u2019ll spend a lot of time in Cambodia. I\u2019ll spend time visiting my family members wherever they may be in the world.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jolie has a\u00a0history with Cambodia<\/a>. The \u201cGirl, Interrupted\u201d actress adopted her first child, Maddox, from the Asian country in 2002.<\/p>\n

\u201cCambodia was the country that made me aware of refugees,\u201d she later explained in an interview with\u00a0Vogue India. \u201cIt made me engage in foreign affairs in a way I never had, and join UNHCR. Above all, it made me a mom.\u201d She was referring to the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn 2001, I was in a school program in Samlout playing blocks on the floor with a little kid and as clear as day I thought: \u2018My son is here,’\u201d she revealed. \u201cA few months later, I met baby Mad at an orphanage. I can\u2019t explain it and am not one to believe in messages or superstition. But it was just real and clear.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jolie adopted two more children, Zahara and Pax, after beginning her\u00a0relationship with Pitt. The \u201cFight Club\u201d star later adopted all three children as his own.<\/p>\n

Jolie also shares three\u00a0biological kids with Pitt\u00a0\u2014 Shiloh, Vivienne and Knox.<\/p>\n

The now-50-year-old actress has said her decision to adopt was rooted in something deeply personal, not performative.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I was growing up, I wanted to adopt because I was aware there were kids that didn\u2019t have parents,\u201d she previously told Vanity Fair in 2008. \u201cIt\u2019s not a humanitarian thing, because I don\u2019t see it as a sacrifice. It\u2019s a gift. We\u2019re all lucky to have each other.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI look at Shiloh \u2014 because, obviously, physically, she is the one that looks like Brad and I when we were little \u2014 and say, \u2018If these were our brothers and sisters, how much would we have known by the time we were 6 that it took into our 30s and 40s to figure out?\u2019 I suppose I\u2019m giving them the childhood I always wished I had.\u201d<\/p>\n

Her international ties have long shaped how she sees the world and, more recently, how she sees the\u00a0United States. Jolie criticized the state of America in September while attending the San Sebasti\u00e1n Film Festival in Spain.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI love my country, but at this time, I don\u2019t recognize my country,\u201d Jolie said during a panel discussion, according to\u00a0Variety<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve always lived internationally, my family is international, my friends, my life \u2026 My worldview is equal, united, and international. Anything anywhere that divides or limits personal expressions and freedoms from anyone, I think, is very dangerous.\u201d<\/p>\n

She added, \u201cThese are such serious times that we have to be careful not to say things casually. These are very, very heavy times we are living in together.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jolie has been outspoken in her criticism of America for years, writing an op-ed for\u00a0the New York Times\u00a0in 2017 opposing President Trump\u2019s immigration ban.<\/p>\n

At the time, Jolie emphasized that she wanted the country to be safe but claimed the policy would do more harm than good.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe can manage our security without writing off citizens of entire countries \u2014 even babies \u2014 as unsafe to visit our country by virtue of geography or religion,\u201d Jolie wrote.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Angelina Jolie\u2019s\u00a0next chapter could unfold far from Hollywood.
