The changeover from\u00a0Star Wars: The Last Jedi<\/a>\u00a0to\u00a0The Rise of Skywalker<\/a>\u00a0had everyone feeling some type of way, and it continues to this day. Was J.J. Abrams spitefully undoing Rian Johnson\u2019s work in\u00a0Jedi,\u00a0or are the two more in conversation with one another than they appear? In Johnson\u2019s eyes, it\u2019s the latter, and something he harbors no ill will about.<\/p>\n

While chatting with Rolling Stone<\/a> about\u00a0Poker Face\u2019s\u00a0just-wrapped second season<\/a>, he revealed he had \u201ca great time\u201d watching\u00a0Skywalker and didn\u2019t feel precious about how things shook out. \u201cI didn\u2019t feel resentful in some way,\u201d he said. \u201cIn my perspective, J.J. did the same thing with the third that I did with the second, which is not digging it up and undoing \u2014 just telling the story the way that was most compelling going forward. That means not just validating what came before, but recontextualizing it and evolving and changing as the story moves forward.\u201d\u00a0For those who\u00a0do\u00a0have problems with\u00a0Skywalker,\u00a0or any\u00a0Star Wars\u00a0film, Johnson advised you check YouTube. (Assuming you already haven\u2019t.)<\/p>\n

Despite some online backlash to Jedi,\u00a0it seemed Lucasfilm wanted to keep Johnson on board, at one point giving him the keys to a whole\u00a0Star Wars\u00a0trilogy<\/a>. But he says he only got as far as concepting ideas with Kathleen Kennedy when he caught the murder mystery bug. After \u201cKnives Out\u00a0happened,\u201d he was tapped to make two sequels\u2014 the third film,\u00a0Wake Up Dead Man, is due in December\u2014and found time to do Poker Face\u00a0for Peacock. At the moment, he\u2019s \u201cperfectly happy\u201d making his own stuff, but he also reiterated what he\u2019s said before<\/a>: if there\u2019s ever a chance to make that trilogy or anything else Star Wars-related, he\u2019ll gladly take it.<\/p>\n
