PAWTUCKET, R.I. \u2014 A suspect is dead after multiple people were shot at an ice arena in Rhode Island on Monday afternoon, FOX Providence (WPRI) reported<\/a>. <\/p>\n

The shooting happened inside the Dennis M. Lynch Arena on Andrew D. Ferland Way in Pawtucket, WPRI reported.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

In addition to the suspect, one of the victims is dead, WPRI reported. Four victims have been taken to the hospital. There was no immediate word on their conditions. <\/p>\n

ATF agents are responding to the shooting to assist state and local authorities, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives – Boston Field Division said in a statement on X, formerly known as Twitter. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe public should avoid the area and follow the directions of Pawtucket police,\u201d ATF said in its statement.<\/p>\n

Providence Police said they are monitoring the situation in Pawtucket. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe currently have officers on scene providing assistance,\u201d Providence Police said in a post on X. <\/p>\n

A 2 p.m. hockey game between Coventry and Blackstone Valley Schools was reportedly happening at the time, WPRI reported.<\/p>\n

There has been no immediate word on any arrests.<\/p>\n

The arena, a one-sheet indoor ice skating rink that is open year-round, is home to the Johnson & Wales University Wildcats. It\u2019s located a short distance from Interstate 95.<\/p>\n

The Providence Bruins issued a statement following the shooting.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur thoughts are with all those affected by the tragic events at the High School Hockey game at Dennis M Lynch Arena in Pawtucket today,\u201d the Providence Bruins said. \u201cWhile we wait for more details, we share our support with the community and commend the first responders for all their efforts.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gov. Dan McKee said state leaders are \u201cactively monitoring the shooting at Dennis M. Lynch Arena in Pawtucket.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI just spoke with Mayor Grebien as well as @RIStatePolice<\/a> who are working with local law enforcement,\u201c McKee said in a statement. \u201dI am praying for Pawtucket and everyone involved.”<\/p>\n
