FORT WAYNE — In partnership with the Community Foundation of Greater Fort Wayne, Canterbury School presents “The Unquiet Journey of Chamique Holdsclaw: A Message of Hope and Healing” as part of the 2025-26 Jonathan Hancock Lecture Series.

Once celebrated as the “female Michael Jordan,” Holdsclaw is one of the most accomplished players in women’s basketball history. She led the University of Tennessee Lady Volunteers to three NCAA national championships, earned WNBA Rookie of the Year honors, and captured an Olympic gold medal.

Today, Holdsclaw courageously shares her personal journey to help break the stigma surrounding mental health, offering a powerful message of vulnerability, resilience, and healing. Her story challenges conventional definitions of strength and reminds audiences that true courage lies not only in achievement, but in the willingness to seek help and rise again.

The event will take place at 6:30 p.m. April 8 at the Arts United Center, 303 E. Main St. Tickets can be purchased online at CanterburySchool.org/JHLS. Tickets cost $10 for general admission; $25 includes an autographed book.

All proceeds raised through ticket sales will benefit Courageous Healing, a local nonprofit dedicated to providing culturally centered, trauma-informed, and accessible mental health care in an authentic and safe environment.

The Jonathan Hancock Lecture Series was established in 2016 to honor retired Canterbury Head of School Jonathan Hancock. This committee-led initiative presents an annual signature event featuring a compelling keynote speaker who offers insight and inspiration to the Fort Wayne community.
