The first\u00a0Scary Movie\u00a0was released in 2000, just four years after Wes Craven reinvigorated the horror genre with his meta slasher masterpiece,\u00a0Scream. The film parodied horror movies of the time including\u00a0Scream,\u00a0I Know What You Did Last Summer, and\u00a0The Blair Witch Project, and the horror-comedy spoof scared up $278 million at the worldwide box office.<\/p>\n
The smash hit box office success of that first\u00a0Scary Movie\u00a0paved the way for an entire franchise of horror movie spoofs, with five of them in total released between 2000 and 2013.<\/p>\n
Only the first two\u00a0Scary Movie\u00a0installments were created by the Wayans Brothers, however, with\u00a0Scary Movie 6\u00a0marking their return to the franchise for the first time since 2001.<\/p>\n
