The husband of U.S. Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer<\/a> \u2014 who represented Oregon\u2019s 5th Congressional District from 2023 to 2025<\/a> \u2014 has been barred from labor department headquarters after at least two female staff members reported he had sexually assaulted them, The New York Times reported<\/a> Thursday.<\/p>\n

Chavez-DeRemer\u2019s<\/a> husband, Dr. Shawn DeRemer, an anesthesiologist in Portland, is accused of touching the women inappropriately at the labor department\u2019s building on Constitution Avenue in Washington, D.C., The New York Times reported based on anonymous sources and police documents.<\/p>\n

The women\u2019s concerns were raised as part of an internal investigation by the department\u2019s inspector general into alleged misconduct by Chavez-DeRemer and her staff.<\/p>\n

One incident, captured by security cameras, showed DeRemer giving one of the women an extended embrace, The New York Times reported.<\/p>\n

One police report has been filed alleging forced sexual contact in December, The New York Times reported.<\/p>\n

Chavez-DeRemer herself is under investigation by the agency\u2019s inspector general over allegations she had an inappropriate relationship with a subordinate, spent taxpayer money on personal travel and kept champagne, bourbon and Kahlua in her office, where she drank during the workday.<\/p>\n

The labor secretary, a longtime Republican who vocally supported President Donald Trump\u2019s attempted troop deployment in Portland, was mayor of Happy Valley from 2011 to 2019.<\/p>\n

Trump appointed her to his cabinet in 2025 after she lost her first reelection campaign for her U.S. House seat.<\/p>\n
