Red Sox owner Fenway Sports Group \u201cjust can\u2019t seem to deliver its message in clear fashion\u201d to fans, who are increasingly having \u201ctrust issues with those calling the shots,\u201d according to Dan Shaughnessy of the BOSTON GLOBE. Principal owner John Henry \u201cchooses not to take questions from media or fans anymore,\u201d and this year, the Red Sox \u201crolled out\u201d President & CEO Sam Kennedy and Chair Tom Werner to speak instead. Shaughnessy: \u201cAfter all the words were spoken, we were more confused than ever.\u201d Between Kennedy having to walk back his comments about former 3B Alex Bregman and Werner\u2019s comments about former 3B Rafael Devers, maybe the Red Sox should just \u201cleave the past in the past.\u201d Shaughnessy noted the Red Sox have a history of mixed messaging, whether it be \u201cwhen Werner promised a \u2018full throttle\u2019 offseason then had to take it back\u201d or when the team said that now-Dodgers SS Mookie Betts \u201cnever wanted to stay here so they had to trade him (Betts said that wasn\u2019t the case).\u201d The situation was \u201cequally bad last spring when Devers was demonized by the organization\u201d after it signed Bregman, who has since signed with the Cubs. Shaughnessy: \u201cSo there\u2019s your credibility problem right there.\u201d The Red Sox are currently valued at $4.8B and \u201ccontinue to operate as the most profitable team in baseball.\u201d Shaughnessy: \u201cThey look like they\u2019re on pace for another 84-90 wins. Maybe another wild-card team. It\u2019s the illusion of contention and it seems to be enough for Red Sox management.
