\n\tMore than 25 years later, Christian Bale<\/a>\u2018s performance in American Psycho<\/a> leaves some big shoes to fill.<\/p>\n

\n\tAfter Deadline exclusively announced director Luca Guadagnino<\/a> and writer Scott Z. Burns<\/a>\u2018 adaptation of the 1991 novel<\/a> by Bret Easton Ellis<\/a> back in 2024, the author recently shared an update on the casting process for the upcoming feature.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cA couple of high profile actors, whom I can\u2019t name, have turned it down,\u201d said Ellis on his podcast<\/a>. \u201cI think maybe because they don\u2019t want to be in the shoes of Christian Bale.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tEllis noted that Scott Z. Burns has since completed new draft of the script after several actors passed on the previous version.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cFrom what I\u2019m told, this movie is completely different from Mary Harron\u2019s 2000 movie. It\u2019s a completely different take, and going to bear no resemblance to that movie,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Lionsgate film will be produced by Frenesy Films, and executive produced by Sam Pressman, the son of Edward R. Pressman, producer of 2002 original movie, through his company Pressman Film.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn 2000\u2019s American Psycho, Bale starred as homicidal investment banker Patrick Bateman, the literary character that Ellis created as a satirical take on masculinity. The Harron-helmed adaptation also starred Justin Theroux, Josh Lucas, Chlo\u00eb Sevigny, Reese Witherspoon, Jared Leto, Willem Dafoe and more.<\/p>\n

\n\tWith American Psycho in the works, Ellis\u2019 2023 novel The Shards is getting the Ryan Murphy treatment with an FX series starring Kaia Gerber also in development<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"More than 25 years later, Christian Bale\u2018s performance in American Psycho leaves some big shoes to fill.
