\n\tFew people in Hollywood can put on a charm offensive like Ted Sarandos<\/a>, but it looks like the Netflix<\/a> boss couldn\u2019t keep the interest of James Cameron<\/a> when it came to explaining the streamer\u2019s plan to buy Warner Bros\u2019 crown jewels.<\/a> <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI respect Mr. Cameron enormously and I love his work,\u201d Sarandos told Senator Mike Lee<\/a> (R-UT) today in a letter (read below in full) refuting the Titanic director\u2019s claims that Netflix\u2019s $83 billion acquisition\u00a0of most of WBD<\/a> would be\u00a0\u201cdisastrous for the theatrical motion picture business<\/a>\u201d and result in big job and soft power losses. \u201cBut his letter to you knowingly misrepresents our position and commitment to the theatrical release of Warner Bros<\/a>. films,\u201d the exec contends. <\/p>\n

\n\tCutting to the chase with MAGA loyalist Lee, Sarandos reiterated his \u201cfirm commitment\u201d to a strong showing for WB in cinemas if the streamer beats back David Ellison<\/a> and Parmount\u2019s $108 billion hostile takeover bid, DC power plays (Hello MAGA) and lawsuits. \u201cI also said the same thing to Mr. Cameron when we met on December 20, 2025, shortly after we announced our agreement to acquire Warner Bros.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tThen pitchman supreme Sarandos, who has been on a media tour this week <\/a>that would put master marketers like Dwayne Johnson<\/a> or Taylor Swift<\/a> to shame, pulled back the curtain on his meet-up with Cameron. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cDuring that meeting we talked about Netflix\u2019s plans for Warner Bros., including our 45-day commitment. Mr. Cameron was very supportive. If anything, he was more excited to talk about the at-home movie viewing glasses he is developing with Meta than exclusive windows for theatrical movies.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tWhile insisting that Netflix was suggesting a slim 17-day exhibition window, let\u2019s just say, like the fact Cameron\u2019s next movie is from Paramount<\/a>, the Oscar winner didn\u2019t bring those glasses up in his February 10 letter to Lee ripping the Netflix-WB merger. <\/p>\n

\n\tAs it stands now, Sarandos is set to respond next week to follow-up questions from the Lee chaired Senate Judiciary subcommittee on antitrust<\/a>.
