{"id":481428,"date":"2026-02-21T07:05:10","date_gmt":"2026-02-21T07:05:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/481428\/"},"modified":"2026-02-21T07:05:10","modified_gmt":"2026-02-21T07:05:10","slug":"ex-googlers-charged-with-stealing-pixel-phone-processor-secrets-the-mercury-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/481428\/","title":{"rendered":"Ex-Googlers charged with stealing Pixel phone processor secrets \u2013 The Mercury News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Robert Burnson, Bloomberg<\/p>\n<p>Two former <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mercurynews.com\/tag\/google\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Google<\/a> engineers and one of their husbands were indicted for allegedly stealing trade secrets relating to the company\u2019s Tensor processor for Pixel phones.<\/p>\n<p>The three \u2014 all Iranian nationals \u2014 were charged in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/usao-ndca\/pr\/silicon-valley-engineers-charged-stealing-trade-secrets-leading-tech-companies-and\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">US indictment unsealed Thursday<\/a> on 14 felony counts of conspiracy and theft of trade secrets and destroying evidence.<\/p>\n<p>Samaneh Ghandali, 41, was a hardware engineer at Google in Silicon Valley and her sister, Soroor Ghandali, 32, was an intern before they both joined another tech firm. Samaneh\u2019s husband, Mohammadjavad Khosravi, 40, applied multiple times at Google but was not hired, and worked for a third tech company.<\/p>\n<p>The three were arrested Thursday and made initial appearances in federal court in San Jose, California, the Justice Department said in a statement. If convicted on the most serious charges, they could be sentenced to at least 20 years in prison, according to the statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have enhanced safeguards to protect our confidential information and immediately alerted law enforcement after discovering this incident,\u201d Jos\u00e9 Casta\u00f1eda, a Google spokesperson, said in a statement. \u201cToday\u2019s indictments are an important step towards accountability and we\u2019ll continue working to ensure our trade secrets remain secure.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A lawyer for the defendants at the public defender\u2019s office couldn\u2019t immediately be reached for comment outside regular business hours.<\/p>\n<p>While working at Google, Samaneh Ghandali sent more than 300 files, including company trade secrets, to a third-party communications application based outside of the US, according to the indictment.<\/p>\n<p>Soroor Ghandali sent 34 files, also including trade secrets, in the same way, the indictment says.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors allege the three intended to provide the trade secrets to third parties, but it\u2019s not clear from the indictment if this happened.<\/p>\n<p>Google\u2019s internal security system detected the sisters\u2019 downloading of its files and notified the FBI, according to the indictment.<\/p>\n<p>The case is<a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/usao-ndca\/pr\/silicon-valley-engineers-charged-stealing-trade-secrets-leading-tech-companies-and\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> USA v.
