The tenacity, determination, and ruggedness of Detroit<\/a> Red Wings prospect Eddie Genborg<\/a> have won him plenty of praise this season for his work with Timra of the Swedish Hockey League (SHL).<\/p>\n

If you haven\u2019t already added net-front presence to his repertoire, then go ahead and do that.<\/p>\n

The SHL returned from its Olympic break on Thursday, and Genborg returned to being a force for Timra. Although the stat sheet was only showing one assist next to his name following Timra\u2019s 5-2 victory over Malm\u00f6, Genborg was a presence for the winners.<\/p>\n

In particular, a net-front presence.<\/p>\n

Alfons Freij, like Genborg, one of the heroes for Sweden\u2019s gold medal-winning world junior squad, netted a pair of first-period goals. It\u2019s unlikely that either would have found the net without Genborg completely obscuring the sightlines of Malm\u00f6 goalkeeper Mark Langhamer.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m just trying to obscure it so the goalkeeper doesn\u2019t see anything,\u201d Genborg told Swedish network TV4<\/a>. Detroit chose Genborg 40th overall in the 2025 NHL entry draft.<\/p>\n

Red Wings Icon Critical of KHL<\/p>\n

Igor Larionov<\/a> won three Stanley Cups as a member of the Red Wings. He\u2019s a Hockey Hall of Famer. Larionov is known as The Professor.<\/p>\n

When he speaks, hockey people listen.<\/p>\n

Today, the coach of SKA St. Petersburg in the NHL, Larionov, was recently speaking about the quality of Russia\u2019s top league. And the Russian media didn\u2019t like what they heard.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been working in the KHL for four years now, and I don\u2019t see any players who are close in level to those currently playing in the NHL,\u201d Larionov was reported as saying by Russian website Sport-Express<\/a>. \u201cThat\u2019s my feeling.\u201d<\/p>\n

With Russia still banned from international tournaments by the IIHF, just four KHL players were participating in the Olympics. Avtomobilist\u2019s Stephan Da Costa played for France. Martin Gernat (Lokomotiv), Adam Li\u0161ka (Severstal), and Adam Ru\u017ei\u010dka (Spartak) suit up for Slovakia.<\/p>\n

Larionov drew further ire when it was revealed by his club that he would be absent for a big KHL showdown between SKA and CSKA Moscow on the weekend.<\/p>\n

\u201cIgor Larionov has left for important hockey matters at the direction of the club\u2019s management and will rejoin the team on Monday. Yuri Babenko will serve as acting head coach during his absence,\u201d SKA said in a statement.<\/p>\n

That important hockey business? He\u2019s flying to Milan to watch the Olympic hockey gold medal game.<\/p>\n

Larsson Comeback Short-Lived<\/p>\n

Once thought of as the Red Wings\u2019 goalie of the future, Filip Larsson\u2019s<\/a> future in the SHL is suddenly on hold.<\/p>\n

Making his debut for Leksands, Larsson was forced to leave the game in the third period with an undisclosed injury. However, even without the former Detroit prospect between the pipes, Leksands beat Skelleftea 2-1 in overtime.<\/p>\n

It was the club\u2019s first win in a month and first since the club sports director Thomas Johansson was fired. He\u2019s the father of Red Wings prospect and Leksands defenseman Anton Johansson. Interestingly, Johansson was not in the Leksands lineup for the game.<\/p>\n

Johansson, 21, has 2-9-11 totals in 35 games this season. He\u2019s second on the team in average time on ice at 21:12. Detroit made Johansson the 105th overall selection of the 2022 NHL entry draft.<\/p>\n
