{"id":484230,"date":"2026-02-22T18:02:14","date_gmt":"2026-02-22T18:02:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/484230\/"},"modified":"2026-02-22T18:02:14","modified_gmt":"2026-02-22T18:02:14","slug":"mickey-moniak-is-looking-to-build-off-his-career-2025-season","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/484230\/","title":{"rendered":"Mickey Moniak is looking to build off his career 2025 season"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"\">Scottsdale, Ariz. \u2013 Mickey Moniak\u2019s career has been defined by ups and down.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">He was drafted first overall by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 2016 MLB Draft and made his MLB debut on September 16, 2020, playing eight games in the COVID-shortened season. After bouncing up and down in 2021, Moniak broke his hand on April 7, 2022 and then bounced up and down until he was traded to the Los Angeles Angels at the deadline.<\/p>\n<p>Advertisement<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">With the Angels, he continued to struggle in 2023 largely due to injuries. However, he played 124 games in 2024 and slashed .219\/.266\/.380 with 14 homers, but was eventually released on March 25, 2025.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The Colorado Rockies took full advantage of it, and signed him two days later.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Moniak broke camp with the Rockies, and ended up having a career year in 2025, slashing .270\/.306\/.518 with a career-high 24 homers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">But Moniak learned some lessons during the 2025 season, even if the Rockies were the worst team in baseball.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cI think, in general, [I learned that] success isn\u2019t linear,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cLast year, with the season we had, obviously nobody was excited about it. Nobody was happy. However, I think that there was a lot of experience that was gained last year for a lot of young guys to then put us in a good situation this year to compete. And we talk about moving past <a href=\"https:\/\/www.purplerow.com\/rockies-news\/79548\/the-colorado-rockies-and-he-wants-to-be-here-2-0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:\u2018happy to be here\u2019;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">\u2018happy to be here\u2019<\/a> and it\u2019s time to win.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Advertisement<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Personally, Moniak made some adjustments to \u201cbuild off what (he) did last year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cObviously, I had the best year of my career,\u201d he said. \u201cBut there\u2019s a new coaching staff, a new front office \u2013 it\u2019s a big turnaround here. So I\u2019m just getting comfortable with them. We\u2019re talking about what needs to be a focus going into this season in order to build off last year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cAnd I think a big one is just trying to stay in the strike zone as best I can,\u201d he continued. \u201cI\u2019m naturally an aggressive hitter, and I think that\u2019s one of my biggest strengths but also it\u2019s a double-edged sword sometimes. So I\u2019m just trying to really hone in on that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"960\" height=\"1438\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"standard-img\" style=\"color:transparent\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/0120f816d95932396f4f1cddde42c4ad.jpeg\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Moniak has been impressed with the new coaching staff, but made sure to shout out manager Warren Schaeffer, who served as the interim manager last year.<\/p>\n<p>Advertisement<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cFirst and foremost, bringing \u2018Schaeff\u2019 back was huge for us,\u201d he said. \u201cI think just what he brings to a clubhouse day in and day out, and what he brings to this organization\u2026 I think he\u2019s the right guy for the job and the right guy to lead us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Moniak specifically pointed to Schaeffer\u2019s \u201ccomfort\u201d with young players as what makes him the right guy for this job.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cKnowing them and being comfortable with them, and vice versa \u2013 young guys being comfortable with him \u2013 I think is a great start,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cAnd then obviously bringing in a lot of veteran guys to help bring experience to the clubhouse,\u201d he continued. \u201cI think experience is gained in one of two ways: It\u2019s either you do it, or you have guys who\u2019ve done it, and you can learn from them. So I think that was huge for us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Advertisement<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">And Schaeffer returned the favor, and not just being \u201ca great left-handed bat that plays a good outfield.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201c[He brings] a good leadership quality that is very, very good,\u201d Schaeffer said. \u201cHe\u2019s a huge presence in that clubhouse, along with Kyle Freeland and [Antonio Senzatela]. He\u2019s right up there with that.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cAnd you can\u2019t really put a value on that,\u201d he continued. \u201cThat\u2019s an enormous value, and he\u2019s a really good baseball player.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Moniak hasn\u2019t seen any spring action yet, but he\u2019s using a more relaxed spring training to get ready for Opening Day.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cThe number one [goal] is just making sure we\u2019re going into the season healthy,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Advertisement<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cThis might be my first spring training where I\u2019ve felt like I haven\u2019t had to go out there and hit .300 to make a team.
