Artificial intelligence<\/a> could create trillionaires \u2014 and spark backlash if wealth is concentrated, according to Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei.<\/p>\n

“You’re going to get a mob coming for you if you don’t do this in the right way,” Amodei recently told <\/a>Axios, saying tech leaders cannot promise sweeping AI “abundance” for themselves without risking public backlash.<\/p>\n

His remarks came after he published <\/a>an essay last month outlining how AI could reshape the global economy. He said the technology should be treated as a “serious civilizational challenge.”<\/p>\n

In his interview with Axios, Amodei<\/a> said AI could create so much economic value that leaders of some technology companies may become trillionaires.<\/p>\n

“You can\u2019t just go around saying we\u2019re going to create all this abundance, a lot of it is going to go to us, and we\u2019re going to be trillionaires, and no one\u2019s going to complain about that,” he told Axios, saying that assuming the public would quietly accept such a concentration of wealth would be misguided.<\/p>\n

The issue, he said, is not growth itself but whether people believe they share in the benefits. If they feel excluded, backlash could follow.<\/p>\n

He said the possibility should be addressed before policy is shaped by anger rather than planning.<\/p>\n

To avoid that outcome, Amodei called for stronger tax policies<\/a> designed for an era of extreme wealth creation.<\/p>\n

“I don\u2019t think this is the tax policies of old,” he told Axios. “This is for a world where people are trillionaires.”<\/p>\n

In his essay, he wrote that taxation could be “general or could be targeted against AI companies in particular.” He said that failing to pursue such policies early could lead to poorly designed measures later.<\/p>\n

Amodei told Axios he supports “transparency legislation as robust as possible” and cutting off the chip supply chain to authoritarian adversaries.<\/p>\n
