Legendary Yankees radio announcer John Sterling suffered a health scare in January.<\/p>\n

He made a startling revelation while speaking with the Yankees<\/a>\u2019 Spanish radio voice, Ricky Ricardo, on WFAN over the weekend. <\/p>\n

\u201cFor people who don\u2019t know, there isn\u2019t any reason to hide it, at the beginning of January, I had a heart attack,\u201d Sterling said in a clip shared on X\/Twitter<\/a>. \u201cThat\u2019s fine, the heart is fine. Sometimes it affects your legs, and it has affected my legs so i\u2019m kind of waiting for the force to leave my legs and I can get back out there. But i\u2019m very fortunate and all things are good. <\/p>\n

\u201cI have four children and I couldn\u2019t have done anything without them. And they have been sensational in taking care of me. They\u2019ve taken over all phases of my life.\u201d<\/p>\n

In April 2024, Sterling retired<\/a> after a 36-year run as the radio voice of the Yankees. He returned to the booth during the Yankees\u2019 2024 postseason run, where they made it to the World Series for the first time since 2009.<\/p>\n

A native New Yorker who grew up on Manhattan\u2019s Upper East Side, Sterling joined the Yankees broadcast team in 1989 from Atlanta\u2019s TBS and WSB Radio, where he called Hawks basketball (1981-89) and Braves games (1982-87).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Legendary Yankees radio announcer John Sterling suffered a health scare in January.
