The Galaxy S22 is celebrating its fourth anniversary this week, but if you\u2019ve been rocking with Samsung\u2019s 2022 flagships since launch, this milestone probably hasn\u2019t been going well for you.<\/p>\n

Following last month\u2019s routine security patch for the S22 series, owners have started reporting some serious issues<\/a> across Reddit<\/a>, as collected by PiunikaWeb<\/a>. Everything from bootloops to random launcher crashes and freezes are here, and as is usual for as widespread and havoc-creating a problem as this, solutions and workarounds seem to be sporadically successful at best. Basically, it seems like Galaxy S22 owners are on their own until an official patch from Samsung comes around. Considering the entire series is on a quarterly upgrade cycle, it\u2019s going to take an unscheduled patch to fix this before May.<\/p>\n

Complaints began piling up from S22 series owners around two weeks ago, with momentum picking up over the last several days. One Reddit post from two days ago<\/a> has built up 140 comments alone, with complaints ranging from full bootloops to One UI crashes and rapid battery drain, even as other users report no issues. While these problems popped up after Samsung\u2019s latest update cycle, it\u2019s unclear exactly what the root cause is \u2014 and, as a result, users haven\u2019t had a ton of luck in locking down a specific solution. <\/p>\n

On the software side, some fans have managed to fix their issues (when the device is bootable) by manually updating the One UI launcher<\/a>. Others have tied the issues to aging batteries, suggesting that both bootloops and battery drain<\/a> can be fixed with a replacement from a local repair shop. Some devices have just fixed themselves<\/a> after an hour or more of failing to boot. And, unsurprisingly, plenty of fans have gone out to pick up a Galaxy S25 <\/a>rather than waiting for a fix. Even with the Galaxy S26 on the way this week, it\u2019s clear waiting for new hardware \u2014 or even a software patch from Samsung \u2014 probably isn\u2019t an option if your current phone is completely bricked.<\/p>\n

We\u2019ll have to wait for an official response from Samsung on whether these issues can be fixed with a future (and, with any luck, rapidly-released) patch. For now, if you\u2019re a Galaxy S22 owner facing any of these headaches, a battery swap might be all you need \u2014 and if not, well, no one would blame you for buying into the planned obsolescence theory. After all, the timing, nor some related lawsuits filed in January<\/a> over a similarly-bugged October 2024 patch, certainly don\u2019t look great for Samsung.<\/p>\n
