Fairhope (Ala.) St. Michael Catholic<\/a> four-star quarterback Gunner Rivers<\/a> is following in his father\u2019s legendary footsteps.<\/p>\n

The son of former NFL star and future Hall of Famer Philip Rivers<\/a> has committed to NC State<\/a>, choosing to join the Wolf Pack 26 years after his father did back in 2000. Gunner chose NC State over reported offers from Auburn, Georgia, Miami, Boston College and more.<\/p>\n

One of the top quarterbacks nationally in the 2027 class, Rivers has long been thought of as a lean to the school where his father won ACC Player of the Year honors in 2003 and Rivers broke almost every NC State and ACC passing record. <\/p>\n

Gunner himself has had a record-breaking high school career and is coming off a junior season where he completed 208 of 290 passes (72%) for 2,813 yards, 44 touchdowns and just five interceptions. In the process, he led St. Michael Catholic to a 13-1 record and an appearance in the state title game vs. powerhouse Jackson. <\/p>\n

Standing in at 6\u20193 and 200 pounds, he ranks as the nation\u2019s No. 117 overall prospect and No. 12 quarterback, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking<\/a>, an equally weighted average that utilizes all three major recruiting services.<\/p>\n

He also ranks as the No. 4 player from the state of Alabama this cycle.<\/p>\n

NC State gets a landmark commitment<\/p>\n

Rivers is undoubtedly one of NC State\u2019s biggest football recruiting wins in program history. His pledge gives head coach Dave Doeren<\/a> and the Wolfpack four commits early on in the 2027 cycle.<\/p>\n

Rivers joins Homerville (Ga.) Clinch County three-star safety Kamarion Johnson<\/a>, Raleigh (N.C.) Cardinal Gibbons three-star tight end Griffin Cockerham<\/a> and Southeast Raleigh three-star running back Christian Freeman<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Last cycle, NC State signed the nation\u2019s No. 46 class, according to the Rivals Industry Team Recruiting Rankings<\/a>. It\u2019s early, but the addition of Rivers could provide the Wolfpack with some serious recruiting momentum heading into the spring. <\/p>\n

NC State has not signed a top-25 class in the internet recruiting era.
