Mike Flanagan is headed back into the world of Stephen King with a brand new movie adaptation of The Mist, which has of course already made its way onto the big screen with Frank Darabont\u2019s acclaimed adaptation and the small screen with a short-lived series<\/a>.<\/p>\n

What does Mike Flanagan plan on bringing to the table with his own version of The Mist? In a series of posts on BlueSky<\/a>, he promises that his adaptation will very much be its own thing.<\/p>\n

Flanagan promises to a fan, \u201cThe Mist is going to be great. If there wasn\u2019t an excellent answer to why, I wouldn\u2019t do it.\u201d He continues in a follow-up post, \u201cI love Darabont\u2019s film, and there\u2019s zero point in remaking it. Which is why I\u2019m going in a different direction.\u201d<\/p>\n

He doubles down, \u201cThis isn\u2019t a retread. The differences start page 1.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd FWIW, I got the same \u2018but why\u2019 comments for Haunting of Hill House, Bly Manor, House of Usher, Carrie, The Exorcist, even Ouija: Origin of Evil,\u201d Flanagan notes. \u201cAlso got it for Life of Chuck. I\u2019ve been lucky so far in my career to only take on projects I\u2019m really excited about.\u201d<\/p>\n

Flanagan will be writing and directing the new film adaptation of Stephen King\u2019s novella, which was first published as part of the 1980 anthology Dark Forces\u00a0before being included in King\u2019s 1985 collection\u00a0Skeleton Crew<\/a> \u2013 also home to The Raft, Survivor Type, and The Monkey.<\/p>\n

The story is set in a Maine town that is consumed by a mysterious fog from which creatures emerge to attack. A group of survivors hole up in a local grocery store, sparking mob mentality and empowering unhinged extremists who become as dangerous as the horrors outside.<\/p>\n

Flanagan\u2019s The Mist is one of many new Stephen King adaptations in the works<\/a>, including Flanagan\u2019s own Prime Video series \u201cCarrie\u201d<\/a> and a series adaptation of the novel Fairy Tale<\/a>.<\/p>\n
