Speaking to the Hollywood Reporter last week, the \u201cOzark\u201d actor recalled the time when Anka asked him when the \u201cspigot [of his partying days] was going to completely turn off.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201c[She] didn\u2019t demand that I completely absolve, but that was sort of the back-and-forth,\u201d he recalled of their \u201cnegotiations\u201d over his alcohol and cocaine consumption. <\/p>\n
\u201cI was like, \u2018Well, I feel like my [sobriety] ETA is six months away, but if I could land this plane now, it would alleviate a lot of the tension, so let\u2019s just f\u2013king do it,\u201d he told the outlet.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve got friends who had bottoms that were pretty chilling, but I was lucky enough to recognize, \u2018This is probably as far as I should go if I still want to accomplish the things that I want to get to,\u2019\u201d he explained to the outlet.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was conscious the whole time of wanting to get a lot of these boxes checked before I became a father and a guy with a career that I not only wanted but had a feeling I might be able to get it if I just got the right job,\u201d the \u201cSmartLess\u201d podcast host added.<\/p>\n

His sobriety, wedding and breakthrough \u201cArrested Development\u201d role all happened within \u201c12 to 24 months,\u201d Bateman\u00a0explained to Esquire<\/a>\u00a0in December 2025, noting that he had also quit smoking cigarettes.<\/p>\nThe decade before that was \u201cconfusing and challenging \u2026 a learning curve.\u201d<\/p>\n
