I was arrested so physically that two other attendees upstairs attempted to intervene in officers pulling on my shoulders after I told them I have a torn rotator cuff tendon and multiple cartilage tears in both of my shoulders,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Rahman told Goodman that the House sergeant-at-arms told her she was arrested because \u201cI was standing up. Silently. No buttons, no facial expressions, no gestures, no signs. Not one sound. Standing up.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThere are only two things you can do at the State of the Union, and they are sit down and stand up. All kinds of people were standing up all night. Me, too,\u201d Rahman said.<\/p>\n
She said in the interview that she has a torn rotator cuff and cartilage tears after federal agents in Minneapolis dragged her out of her car last month when she drove down a street where an anti-immigration protest was happening. Rahman said she had been trying to get to a doctor\u2019s appointment.<\/p>\n
Capitol Police said Rahman was arrested on a charge of unlawful conduct, disruption of Congress.<\/p>\n
\u201cAll State of the Union tickets clearly explain that demonstrating is prohibited,\u201d Capitol Police said in a statement. \u201cThe guest was told to sit down, but refused to obey our lawful orders. It is illegal to disrupt the Congress and demonstrate in the Congressional Buildings.\u201d<\/p>\n
Omar blasted Rahman\u2019s arrest Wednesday, calling for a \u201cfull explanation of why this arrest occurred.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThe heavy-handed response to a peaceful guest sends a chilling message about the state of our democracy,\u201d she said in a statement.<\/p>\n

Omar said Rahman was taken to George Washington University Hospital for treatment and later booked at Capitol Police headquarters. According to a description provided by Omar\u2019s office, Rahman is a disabled person with autism and a traumatic brain injury from Minneapolis.<\/p>\n
Minneapolis was at the center of the Trump administration\u2019s intense immigration crackdown in recent months as part of so-called Operation Metro Surge. <\/p>\n
During the operation, federal agents shot several people, killing Americans Renee Good and Alex Pretti, who were killed.
