{"id":492654,"date":"2026-02-27T01:10:13","date_gmt":"2026-02-27T01:10:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/492654\/"},"modified":"2026-02-27T01:10:13","modified_gmt":"2026-02-27T01:10:13","slug":"igor-shesterkin-adam-fox-return-in-rangers-lineup-boost","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/492654\/","title":{"rendered":"Igor Shesterkin, Adam Fox return in Rangers lineup boost"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Rangers will resume their season after the Olympic break with three pieces back in their lineup.<\/p>\n<p>Goaltender Igor Shesterkin and defenseman Adam Fox will return for their game Thursday against the Flyers at the Garden after both being out since exiting a Jan. 5 game with lower-body injuries, head coach Mike Sullivan said after the Blueshirts\u2019 morning skate in Tarrytown. <\/p>\n<p>Conor Sheary, who hasn\u2019t played since Dec. 31 with a lower-body injury, will also return. Adam Edstrom, out since the end of November, continues to skate with the team but still needs to log more practices before returning, Sullivan said.<\/p>\n<p>So after a 2-11 stretch that followed after Shesterkin and Fox <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/02\/25\/sports\/some-injured-rangers-expected-back-when-team-starts-up-nhl-schedule\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">landed on injured reserve and long-term injured reserve<\/a>, respectively, the Rangers \u2014 after needing to rely on Jonathan Quick as their starting goaltender and shuffling around their power play again without Fox \u2014 will have a bit of normalcy in their lineup.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.51255539;display:block\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"38612521\" width=\"892\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/new-york-rangers-goaltender-igor-114074245.jpg\" alt=\"New York Rangers goaltender Igor Shesterkin defends the net.\" class=\"wp-image-38612521\"  \/>Rangers goaltender Igor Shesterkin defends the net against the Sharks. JASON SZENES\/ NY POST<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it\u2019s a huge boost,\u201d Sullivan said of Fox and Shesterkin returning. \u201cThese guys, the caliber of player that they are, it\u2019s hard to replace those guys \u2014 as we know. So when you get two elite players back in the lineup like that, I think it gives a huge boost of confidence to the whole group.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fox has skated in just three games for the Rangers since Nov. 29, initially dealing with a shoulder injury before sustaining the lower-body one at the end of regulation Jan. 5, missing overtime in the Blueshirts\u2019 eventual loss to Utah and then landing on LTIR. The former Norris Trophy winner has collected 28 points across 38 games this year.<\/p>\n<p>Before his injury, Shesterkin collected a .913 save percentage and 2.45 goals against average, but the Rangers encountered a major scare when the Mammoth\u2019s JJ Peterka veered toward the net and Shesterkin collapsed \u2014 and needed to get helped off the ice \u2014 without any contact. Quick struggled as Shesterkin\u2019s replacement, too, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/02\/05\/sports\/rangers-keep-crashing-with-shutout-loss-to-hurricanes\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">collecting a 1-8-0 record with a .853 save percentage<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.49926794;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"38612545\" width=\"885\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/adam-fox-23-new-york-118120292.jpg\" alt=\"New York Rangers player Adam Fox skating across the ice with other blurred players in the background.\" class=\"wp-image-38612545\"  \/>Adam Fox #23 of the New York Rangers skates during practice for the Discover NHL Winter Classic. NHLI via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>And the Rangers, despite not playing a game since Feb. 5 due to the Olympic break, aren\u2019t wasting any time getting both of their stars back in games.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause they\u2019re healthy,\u201d Sullivan said, when asked why this is the right time for Shesterkin and Fox. \u201cThey\u2019ve trained extremely hard to get back to the position that they\u2019re in, and they\u2019re elite players and they make us a better team.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The Rangers will resume their season after the Olympic break with three pieces back in their lineup.
