deal with the United States<\/a>, the Omani Foreign Minister, who has served as key mediator in the US\u2019 talks with Iran, told CBS\u2019 \u201cFace the Nation\u201d on Friday.\n <\/p>\n\n Such an agreement to eliminate its stockpile would mark a significant concession and a change from the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, from which US President Donald Trump withdrew in his first term.\n <\/p>\n
\n Omani Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi said that \u201cin his view,\u201d there had been agreement on the stockpile matter, as well as \u201cfull and comprehensive verification\u201d by the UN\u2019s nuclear watchdog. It is unclear if the Trump administration shares that view.\n <\/p>\n
\n Asked the comments, the White House deferred to Trump\u2019s comments today. CNN has reached out to the State Department.\n <\/p>\n
\n \u201cSo explain that,\u201d CBS\u2019 Margaret Brennan said. \u201cSo the enriched material, things that could be used as nuclear fuel for a bomb, you\u2019re saying Iran would not keep on their own soil?\u201d\n <\/p>\n
\n \u201cThey would give it up,\u201d Albusaidi said, adding that Iran \u201cwill not be able to actually accumulate that material that will enable them to create a bomb.\u201d\n <\/p>\n
\n The current stockpiles in Iran now, he said, would be \u201cblended to the lowest level possible \u2026 and converted into fuel, and that fuel will be irreversible.\u201d\n <\/p>\n
\n Albusaidi added that \u201cif there is a deal, an agreed deal, there will be full access\u201d to Iranian nuclear sites for International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspectors. He also expressed confidence \u201cthat even United States inspectors will have access at some point in the process\u201d if a deal is reached.\n <\/p>\n
\n Earlier on Friday, Albusaidi met with Vice President JD Vance to discuss the latest on the negotiations.\n <\/p>\n
\n Albusaidi\u2019s comments come just hours after Trump told the press he was \u201cnot happy\u201d with the state of the negotiations, as Iran is \u201cnot willing to give us what we have to have.\u201d Trump has insisted that Iran stop its uranium enrichment so it could never develop a nuclear weapon. Albusaidi said Friday he didn\u2019t know what Trump meant when he said there was not enough being done.\n <\/p>\n
