On Wednesday morning, the Kansas City Chiefs<\/a> returned to the practice field at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph for the eighth full practice of the team\u2019s 2025 training camp.<\/p>\n

This was one of 17 sessions scheduled for the team\u2019s practice field next to MWSU\u2019s Spratt Stadium. Eight of the remaining practices will be open to the public \u2014 click here for details and a full schedule<\/a> \u2014 while one more will be open only to the team\u2019s Season Ticket Members.<\/p>\n

Arrowhead Pride editor-in-chief Pete Sweeney was there. He posted some observations<\/a> on social media \u2014 beginning with a much more comfortable day<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Wednesday provided much more comfortable conditions for the players, with temperatures in the mid-70s. Fans were asked to leave midway through practice due to lightning in the area, but the team remained outside for the full duration.<\/p>\n

It was one of head coach Andy Reid\u2019s light practices<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The workout was a 10-10-10 design, meaning the team cycles through 10 offensive plays, 10 defensive plays and 10 minutes of special teams. The first-team offense is served by the second-team defense and vice versa.<\/p>\n

During these types of workouts, I find there is more to take away from the rotations than the actual on-field, so that’s the direction we’ll take this observation thread.<\/p>\n

With the right tackle out, Jaylon Moore got some time<\/a>.<\/p>\n

With Jawaan Taylor (knee) not practicing, the top-team offensive line left to right was Simmons, Suamataia, Humphrey, Smith and Moore. Mike Caliendo occasionally popped in at both guard positions, and Hunter Nourzad cycled in at center a few times.<\/p>\n

A total of nine other Chiefs<\/a> also missed Wednesday\u2019s workout<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Hollywood Brown (ankle), Skyy Moore (hamstring) and Xavier Worthy (concussion) missed practice, so WRs Tyquan Thornton, Jason Brownlee and Nikko Remigio saw more time with the first team than usual.<\/p>\n

The defensive coordinator went with what looks like the first-team secondary<\/a> \u2014 at least without Kristian Fulton. <\/p>\n

On defense, Steve Spagnuolo ran CBs Trent McDuffie and Jaylen Watson outside and DB Chamarri Conner inside with the first team. With the second team, CBs Joshua Williams and Nohl Williams were outside with DB Kevin Knowles inside. Knowles saw time there for 2 straight practices.<\/p>\n

I asked Spagnuolo about Knowles after the workout: “I think Kevin’s done a great job. He’s a quick-twitch guy. Free agent, so I didn’t know a lot about him coming in. But our scouts did a good job identifying guys like that. I think he’s found a little home at that Nickel spot. I\u2026<\/p>\n

Still, the team would like to get Fulton back<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Spagnuolo and the #Chiefs<\/a> continue to wait for CB Kristian Fulton to be activated off the PUP list after a knee cleanup procedure in the spring. That will change the rotation a bit. I also asked the DC about that.<\/p>\n

Spagnuolo on Fulton: “That just means other guys get more reps, and we’re going to have to find out what we have in Kristian Fulton because he’s missed a lot of time. It’s not like you step right in here in a multiple system like we have and know what you’re doing, so it may take\u2026<\/p>\n

Omarr Norman-Lott wasn\u2019t the only rookie defensive lineman who was getting some work with the first team defense<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Rookie third-round DE Ashton Gillotte continues to gradually see more and more time with the first team, and he seems to be progressing. Everyone is now well aware of the friendly rivalry he has with fellow rookie OL Josh Simmons, which the coaching staff seems to like.<\/p>\n

Spagnuolo: “I think our guys, as good as any place that I’ve been, do a really good job of taking care of each other, and they respect each other. It’s not offense vs. defense. Matt [Nagy] and I treat it that way. Every once and a while, when it’s hot and they’re getting tired,\u2026<\/p>\n

Matt Araiza and Eddie Czaplicki continued to battle for the punting job<\/a> during Wednesday\u2019s practice. But later that afternoon, the Chiefs put an end to it by waiving the former USC punter<\/a>. So now, we won\u2019t have to learn how to pronounce \u201cCzaplicki.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dave Toub worked both punters during a special-teams punt period, with WR Nikko Remigio and RB Brashard Smith as the primary returners.<\/p>\n

I think that Thornton and Moore have had nice camps, which makes the returner situation more interesting when you consider the numbers game.<\/p>\n

As always, Pete tallied up quarterback Patrick Mahomes\u2019 targets<\/a> on the day. With three of the team\u2019s main wide receivers out on Wednesday, wideout Jason Brownlee was among those at the top of the list.<\/p>\n

The team will take Thursday off. The next practice will be at 9:15 a.m. Arrowhead Time on Friday. As always, we will have live updates after it begins. When it is over, defensive backs will sign autographs, while head coach Andy Reid will be among those speaking to reporters.<\/p>\n
