\n\tAlthough Ryan Gosling<\/a> has been known to take on some major leading roles, he\u2019s yet to commit to an ongoing franchise.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe 3x Oscar nominee recently explained why those kinds of projects \u201cnever felt right\u201d until Shawn Levy<\/a>\u2018s Star Wars<\/a>: Starfighter, which went into production last fall and is scheduled to premiere May 28, 2027 in theaters.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt was Shawn\u2019s enthusiasm and his vision and the script,\u201d Gosling told io9<\/a>. \u201cAnd I just avoided these things because they never felt right. And I\u2019m glad I did because I feel like, [similar to] a book like this, [it was] worth waiting for. And it is like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tA standalone film outside the Skywalker saga, Starfighter is set five years after Star Wars: Episode IX \u2014 The Rise of Skywalker (2019). Penned by Jonathan Tropper, the movie stars Gosling, Matt Smith, Mia Goth, Aaron Pierre, Simon Bird, Jamael Westman, Daniel Ings, Flynn Gray and Amy Adams.<\/p>\n

\n\tGosling previously praised the installment<\/a> as \u201csuch a great story with great and original characters,\u201d as well as \u201cso much heart and adventure,\u201d adding: \u201cThere is not a more perfect filmmaker for this particular story than Shawn.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tWhile the actor has played Ken in Barbie (2023) and starred alongside Harrison Ford in Blade Runner (2049), he\u2019s yet to play the same character twice.
