A CBS News producer who left the network after almost half a century of service issued a dire warning in a farewell memo. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve been reading a lot of goodbyes lately, and here I am headed out the door,\u201d journalist Mary Walsh wrote Friday in a memo obtained by The Guardian<\/a>, announcing that she is leaving the network after 46 years.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut maybe it\u2019s for the best,\u201d Walsh wrote, adding that journalists at CBS News have been told to aim their reporting \u201cat a particular part of the political spectrum.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know how to do that,\u201d Walsh added.<\/p>\n

The memo comes as CBS\u2019s parent company, Paramount Skydance\u2014owned by Trump-friendly billionaire David Ellison\u2014emerged Thursday as the frontrunner in a bid for Warner Bros. Discovery<\/a>, CNN\u2019s parent company, sparking fears among CNN staff that their newsroom could be taken over, just like CBS. <\/p>\n

Since Ellison\u2019s takeover of Paramount in August, CBS News has come under the control of Bari Weiss, who has been widely criticized for steering the network into Trump-friendly territory as editor-in-chief.<\/p>\n

Though Walsh\u2019s statement does not specify the \u201cparticular part of the political spectrum\u201d the network has directed journalists toward, Weiss\u2019s tenure has been marked by a series of chaotic moments.<\/p>\n

In December, Weiss came under fire for pulling a 60 Minutes segment<\/a> at the last minute. The segment detailed the grisly conditions at an El Salvador megaprison where Venezuelan men deported by President Donald Trump were held\u2014a move correspondent Sharyn Alfonsi, who reported the story, called \u201cpolitical.\u201d<\/p>\n

The following month, during an all-hands meeting across CBS News bureaus, she told staff to quit<\/a> if they did not align with her vision and proposed buyouts <\/a>to employees that same week. <\/p>\n

Walsh is one of nearly a dozen producers to accept the buyout and is not the first to post a fiery farewell. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Producer Alicia Hastey, who also took a buyout and left, complained<\/a> that journalists at the network were forced to \u201cself-censor or avoid challenging narratives.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Guardian reported that Walsh, whose exit was described by one staffer as \u201cpretty huge,\u201d was honored in an emotional farewell from CBS News president Tom Cibrowski, alongside fellow veteran producer Kate Rydell, who is also leaving the network, during a staff-wide editorial call on Friday morning.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the Ellison takeover has sent waves of anxiety through CNN<\/a>, with insiders describing the panic among staffers as \u201coff the charts\u201d and some even claiming the network is \u201cdoomed.\u201d<\/p>\n

The situation could be particularly awkward for Anderson Cooper<\/a>, who left CBS\u2019s 60 Minutes in February, becoming one of the highest-profile departures under Weiss\u2019s leadership, but remained an anchor at CNN.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis will be messy and uncomfortable if Bari and Anderson are under the same roof again,\u201d a media insider told NewsNation, adding, \u201cAnderson really doesn\u2019t like her or want to work for her\u2014and he\u2019s the face of the network. For now.\u201d<\/p>\n
