Just a few weeks until we see if\u00a0Sinners<\/a>\u00a0takes any Oscars, and NPR wants to remind you its music<\/a> and the people singing it are pretty great.<\/p>\n

On Friday, the nonprofit organization released a new Tiny Desk concert featuring two of the film\u2019s stars, Miles Caton and Buddy Guy, making their Tiny Desk debuts. Both play the respective young and older versions of the SmokeStack twins\u2019 cousin Sammie Moore, and because they\u2019re both really talented, they teamed on the movie\u2019s two big Sammie-centric songs, \u201cTravelin’\u201d and the Oscar-nominated<\/a> \u201cI Lied to You.\u201d<\/p>\n

Before Caton comes on, the Guy gets the first half of the concert to himself, where he and his band play two songs from his own blues history\u2014that\u2019d be 1991\u2019s \u201cDamn Right, I\u2019ve Got the Blues\u201d and his rendition of Willie Dixon\u2019s 1954 blues standard \u201cHoochie Coochie Man.\u201d The man can sing and play, and he\u2019s got a fun energy, whether he\u2019s accidentally cursing on camera and trying to correct it or making some horny jokes while Caton tries to do his thing. (The movie\u2019s horny<\/a>, so he\u2019s just keeping the energy!) Fittingly, they play off each other very well as two guys just chatting it up, and when it\u2019s time for them to play together? Yeah, man, that\u2019s the stuff.<\/p>\n

Listening to the two men together, it\u2019s no wonder why\u00a0Sinners\u2019\u00a0music is up for the Oscars, or why Guy himself won \u201cBest Traditional Blues Album\u201d at the 2026 Grammys for his latest album, Ain\u2019t Done With the Blues<\/a>. And along with capping off Black History Month, the concert loops back to the film\u2019s idea of music reverberating across time and different generations of artists. Hopefully they get to duet outside the film\u2019s orbit\u2014or at least stick with music<\/a> as long as possible.<\/p>\n
