Four days after her father died by suicide at age 71, the Handmaid\u2019s Tale<\/a> actress, 51, shared that she\u2019s been having one of the \u201chardest weeks\u201d of her life.<\/p>\n \u201cAfter one of the hardest weeks of my life, I went to see my friend @joannavargasnyc and she does what she always does and took care of my heart and took a few years off my face,\u201d Ever wrote on her Instagram Stories<\/a> on Friday, Feb. 27, alongside a selfie with the celebrity esthetician.<\/p>\n Robert\u2019s family told PEOPLE in a statement that the Lizzie McGuire<\/a> star died on Monday, Feb. 23, following a \u201cvaliant struggle\u201d with bipolar disorder.<\/p>\n Ever Carradine and her friend Joanna Vargas \u201cIt is with profound sadness that we must share that our beloved father, grandfather, uncle, and brother Robert Carradine has passed away,\u201d they said. “In a world that can feel so dark, Bobby was always a beacon of light to everyone around him.\u201d<\/p>\n “We are bereft at the loss of this beautiful soul and want to acknowledge Bobby\u2019s valiant struggle against his nearly two-decade battle with bipolar disorder,\u201d the statement continued. \u201cWe hope his journey can shine a light and encourage addressing the stigma that attaches to mental illness.\u201d<\/p>\n According to online records<\/a> for the Los Angeles Medical Examiner\u2019s Office, the late actor\u2019s death has been ruled a suicide<\/a>.<\/p>\n Hours after Robert’s death, Ever shared a series of family photos<\/a> \u2014 both old and new \u2014 on Instagram alongside a heartbreaking tribute<\/a> to her late father.<\/p>\n Never miss a story \u2014 sign up for PEOPLE’s free daily newsletter<\/a> to stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer\u200b\u200b, from celebrity news to compelling human interest stories.<\/p>\n Robert Carradine and his daughter Ever Carradine. \u201cMy dad died today,\u201d she wrote in the caption. \u201cMy sweet, funny dad, who\u2019s only 20 years older than I am, who never missed an opportunity to drive me to the airport or tell me how much he loved my homemade salad dressing, is gone. If you knew my dad, you know he\u2019s the guy that\u2019s always there.\u201d<\/p>\n Ever went on to praise Robert for always showing up for her and others he loved.<\/p>\n \u201cGrowing up in the 70s and 80s with a single dad in Laurel Canyon is not exactly the recipe for a grounded childhood, but somehow mine was,\u201d she continued. \u201cWhenever anyone asks me how I turned out so normal, I always tell them it\u2019s because of my dad.
