With certain goods and services costing more, some believe they are now too high to buy.<\/p>\n<p>                On Friday, the Labor Department announced that <a href=\"https:\/\/wtop.com\/business-finance\/2026\/02\/us-wholesale-prices-arrive-hotter-than-expected-up-0-5-from-december-and-2-9-from-a-year-ago\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">prices rose 2.9% since January 2025<\/a>.\u00a0With certain goods and services costing more, some believe they are now too high to buy.<\/p>\n<p>WTOP heard from shoppers in Centreville, Virginia, on which items they\u2019ve crossed off their shopping list.<\/p>\n<p>Walking to her car along with her daughter from a supermarket was Lucia.<\/p>\n<p>The avid reader said even though she, \u201cloves to read anything that is printed,\u201d she has given up buying magazines and books.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s just so expensive,\u201d Lucia said.<\/p>\n<p>A couple of rows over in the parking lot from Lucia was Adrian.<\/p>\n<p>While opening the door to his SUV, Adrian said the prices of new cars have gone up so much that he\u2019ll be keeping his Chevy Trailblazer, \u201cfor a long time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Coming out of a pet store in the same shopping center was Diana.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t buy red meat much anymore,\u201d Diana said.<\/p>\n<p>The breaking point for Diana was when she saw the cost of two small steaks at the grocery store was $35.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI put them down and walked away,\u201d Diana said.<\/p>\n<p>One of the employees of a restaurant in the shopping center, Angelica, stopped to tell WTOP one of the activities that she no longer is willing to pay for.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t buy concert tickets anymore. It\u2019s just too expensive,\u201d Angelica said. She added that it\u2019s, \u201c$300 for a decent seat and there\u2019s crazy fees added on top of that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Angelica is also not happy about cost of concessions at the music venues and the musicians\u2019 merchandise.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not only products or activities that people are giving up, but also services.<\/p>\n<p>Andrea said getting her nails done has had to take a back seat now that the price of a manicures and pedicures can cost $200.<\/p>\n<p>While another shopper in the parking lot, Tracey, agreed with Andrea that the price of a mani-pedi is getting out of control and added that another item is getting expensive is \u201cgetting your eyebrows waxed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s like $15,\u201d Tracey exclaimed, but said that she still gets them done.<\/p>\n<p class=\"single-page__signature bottom\">Get breaking news and daily headlines delivered to your email inbox by signing up <a href=\"https:\/\/wtop.com\/newsletter-signup\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"single-page__signature bottom\">\u00a9 2026 WTOP.
