\n\tAfter bowing out of the bid<\/a> for Warner Bros. Discovery last week, Netflix<\/a> CEO Ted Sarandos is teasing what\u2019s next for the streamer.<\/p>\n

\n\tWhile another acquisition doesn\u2019t appear to be in Netflix\u2019s near future, Sarandos\u2019 discussions with cinema owners have resulted in the streaming platform planning \u201csome really creative things\u201d for their titles in theaters.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cEverything I talked about would require us buying that theatrical distribution entity,\u201d he explained in an interview with Bloomberg<\/a>. \u201cBut one thing that\u2019s been great about it is getting to know and have open dialogue with the theater owners. I really didn\u2019t have much reason to before.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tSarandos added, \u201cWe\u2019ve figured out some really creative things to do together like you saw with Stranger Things and KPop Demon Hunters. We have One Piece in theaters next week in the US and Japan. I think we\u2019re going to find a bunch of cool things to do together going forward. I could see us doing things that we haven\u2019t done before.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHe referred to Paramount<\/a>\u2018s bidding as \u201cunusual, irrational, whatever words you want to use in that,\u201d adding: \u201cIt\u2019ll be fascinating to see the next steps. I have been on the record a lot in the last two weeks talking about what I think the future looks like. I\u2019m confident in our future that we\u2019re not impacted by all that. In fact, maybe it\u2019s to our advantage. But I hope I\u2019m wrong for the sake of the industry.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tWhile he admits the Warner Bros. purchase \u201cwas an incredibly unique opportunity,\u201d Sarandos noted, \u201cWe definitely wanted this asset. We didn\u2019t need it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tSarandos added that Netflix is \u201cunlikely\u201d to attempt another M&A anytime soon, planning to use the $2.8 billion termination fee<\/a> to \u201cjust keep investing in the business.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe are builders, not buyers,\u201d explained Sarandos. \u201cAll that is still true.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tOn Thursday, Netflix threw in the towel on the Warner Bros. deal, refusing to raise its bid against Paramount Skydance\u2019s \u201csuperior\u201d $31-per-share offer<\/a>, following the $82.7 billion deal<\/a> Netflix signed with WBD in December before the Ellison-owned company launched its hostile takeover<\/a>. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"After bowing out of the bid for Warner Bros.
