He was 23.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe entire CU Athletics family is devastated at the <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/college-football\/story\/_\/id\/48077044\/colorado-quarterback-dominiq-ponder-dies-23\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">tragic passing of Dominiq Ponder<\/a>,\u201d Colorado Athletic Director Fernando Lovo said in a statement, via Adam Rittenberg of ESPN.com. \u201cHe epitomized the values of passion, enthusiasm, leadership, toughness, and intelligence that were revered by his teammates and coaches alike. Our hearts go out to his family and all of his teammates during this difficult time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ponder died in a single-car accident early Sunday. He lost control on a curve; the car eventually rolled down an embankment before catching on fire. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Police believe speed was a factor.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDom was <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/DeionSanders\/status\/2028249577883939013?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">one of my favorites<\/a>!\u201d Colorado coach Deion Sanders said on Twitter. \u201cHe was Loved, Respected &amp; a Born Leader. Let\u2019s pray for all that knew him &amp; had the opportunity to be in his presence. Lord you\u2019re receiving a good 1.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After transferring from Bethune-Cookman, Ponder had spent two seasons at Colorado.
