Shane Lowry has praised the “incredible” Jack Nicklaus and shared insights into what the golf icon does in the locker room at his Bear’s Club in Florida, where the one-time major champion is a member.<\/p>\n
The 38-year-old<\/a>, a two-time Ryder Cup champion<\/a>, has embraced life in Florida<\/a>, residing mere minutes from the Palm Beach Gardens facility. He’s a member at Nicklaus’s Bear’s Club, located close to the Irishman’s home in Jupiter.<\/p>\n Nicklaus and Lowry have crossed paths on multiple occasions and even shared meals together, with the PGA Tour professional calling the golf great “incredible.” But Lowry hasn’t managed to join Nicklaus’ locker room card sessions at Bear’s Club.<\/p>\n READ MORE: UFC’s brutal reason for snubbing Conor McGregor from historic White House card<\/a>READ MORE: NFL Draft star left in tears after dramatic performance at Combine<\/a><\/p>\n Lowry revealed this detail at the Cognizant Classic at Champion Course, where Nicklaus is providing commentary on his wife Barbara’s 86th birthday.<\/p>\n “Yeah, it’s a bit surreal, to be honest. I go into the locker room at the Bear’s Club most days for my lunch, and Jack’s in there a lot,” Lowry said. “He plays cards with the other members in the afternoons.<\/p>\n “I’m not good enough to be in that card game. He’s done so much for this game, and this whole area and community, and I’m so fortunate to be able to be around people like that.”<\/p>\n Lowry is aiming to secure his first individual PGA Tour victory since capturing The Open Championship in July 2019.<\/p>\n Lowry, who has notched three top-five finishes at this event in the past four years, is currently tied for the lead at 13-under through 54 holes with Smotherman after wrapping up the third round.<\/p>\n Lowry anticipates Sunday’s round to present some tough challenges. He suggests a new contender could rise with low scores. “You want to be near the leaders, keep an eye on them and see what they’re doing,” Lowry stated.<\/p>\n “If the conditions are like this tomorrow, there are low scores out there, so someone could come from the pack. It’s not necessarily easy to lead around this golf course.<\/p>\n “There’s a lot of very difficult shots. But I’m up there where I want to be. I’ve had a few chances to win this tournament, and hopefully I can convert it tomorrow.”<\/p>\n Lowry added: “There wasn’t much wind out there, so there’s certain things that aligned today to make it play easy enough, wind direction being one of them.<\/p>\n “But you still need to go out there and hit the shots. The greens are firm. It can get away from you if you’re not hitting the ball well.
