{"id":500222,"date":"2026-03-03T00:59:08","date_gmt":"2026-03-03T00:59:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/500222\/"},"modified":"2026-03-03T00:59:08","modified_gmt":"2026-03-03T00:59:08","slug":"daniel-farke-doubts-if-leeds-booing-was-for-ramadan-break","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/500222\/","title":{"rendered":"Daniel Farke doubts if Leeds booing was for Ramadan break"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Daniel Farke has said it&#8217;s unlikely that the booing from sections of <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"231a0077-e0f5-f148-974b-82b9ec5f304e\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/soccer\/team?id=357\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Leeds United<\/a> fans during their clash against <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"94fd5d7e-35b1-9d52-c9f2-4a37259bea36\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/soccer\/team?id=382\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Manchester City<\/a> was due to the Ramadan fast break.<\/p>\n<p>Leeds fans came in for heavy criticism after a break in play against City to allow their Muslim players to break their fast during Ramadan was met by some prolonged boos from the stands.<\/p>\n<p>City boss Pep Guardiola <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/football\/story\/_\/id\/48063518\/pep-guardiola-kick-condemn-booing-man-city-ramadan-leeds-united-elland-road\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">condemned the booing<\/a> in his post-match news conference, and anti-discrimination group Kick it Out also called it &#8220;massively disappointing.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If it was disrespectful because of the break, then yes we have to say we have to learn from it,&#8221; Farke said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m not sure that everyone was aware &#8212; we had the topic of Pep [Guardiola] bringing players in to give a team talk &#8212; I think supporters thought it was this.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I don&#8217;t think booing was for this [Ramadan]. It should be there pretty soon, then I have the chance to respond,&#8221; Farke said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The report will say what the red card was for. I&#8217;m not sure what the processes are and when we can appeal it. I&#8217;m not sure. I can just give you my gut feeling this should not be a red card.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;When there has been a clear and obvious mistake, and for me this was a clear and obvious mistake, it should be overturned. This is what I&#8217;ve experienced when players have a red card by mistake, it can be overturned, and I expect the same.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>As the club and Farke wait to make a decision on whether to appeal, it is understood that, subject to the referee&#8217;s report, the German may opt to accept a possible one-match ban and not go through with the appeal process.<\/p>\n<p>Farke, who hopes to be in the dug-out for Tuesday night&#8217;s visit of <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"479e0b8f-fbeb-4a27-ce19-2c6ab31ac811\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/soccer\/team?id=366\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sunderland<\/a>, added: &#8220;I jogged over. Not one bad word. No swear words or bad language.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I just wanted to ask him why he didn&#8217;t add any time on. He didn&#8217;t speak to me and just pulled out the red card.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;To pull out a red card and embarrass me in front of the whole world, I wasn&#8217;t happy. Even the assistants were shocked the red card was shown.
