Kennedy<\/a>, first lady <a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/tag\/jackie-kennedy\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Jacqueline \u201cJackie\u201d Kennedy Onassis;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">Jacqueline \u201cJackie\u201d Kennedy Onassis<\/a> grew up surrounded by her brothers and sisters, including Hugh Jr., Lee, Nina and Janet.<\/p>\n<p>Born to stockbroker John Vernou Bouvier III and Janet Norton Lee, Jackie was an only child until March 3, 1933, when her sister <a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/politics\/lee-radziwill-life-in-photos\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Caroline \u201cLee\u201d Radziwill;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">Caroline \u201cLee\u201d Radziwill<\/a> was born.<\/p>\n<p>Jackie&#8217;s family got even bigger in 1942 when Janet, who split from Bouvier III in 1940, married Standard Oil heir Hugh D. Auchincloss, giving Jackie and Lee three new stepsiblings: Hugh \u201cYusha\u201d D. Auchincloss Jr., Hugh Sr.\u2019s son with ex-wife Maya de Chrapovitsky, and Thomas Gore Auchincloss and Nina Auchincloss Straight, whom Hugh Sr. shared with his second wife, Nina Gore.<\/p>\n<p>Nina was particularly enchanted with her new big sister, telling <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/1981\/04\/17\/style\/a-novel-of-complex-family-ties-sets-off-guessing.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:The New York Times;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">The New York Times<\/a> in 1981, \u201cI traipsed after [Jackie] everywhere. &#8230; She remains an idol to me. She has great character, courage and discipline. Since I was the eldest in the family, I had the first pick of the rooms.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He continued, &#8220;Jackie was the second oldest so she got the second-best room, which is this room with its view of the Bay at sunset. We had so much fun. Ours was a very close relationship.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jackie opened up about the mutual respect she had for Nina \u2014 who worked as Washington bureau chief for the Chattanooga Times from 1963 until 1971 per the outlet \u2014 at a book launch for her novel Ariabella: The First in April 1981.<\/p>\n<p>&#8221;I&#8217;ve been fond of [Nina] since she was 5 and came into the family,\u201d Jackie told The New York Times. \u201cI was 12 at the time. I regarded her as the cutest, most mischievous little girl I&#8217;d ever seen. Kennedy Jr;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">John F. Kennedy Jr<\/a>., Lee\u2019s son Anthony Radziwill, Hugh Jr.\u2019s son Cecil Lyon Auchincloss, Thomas\u2019s son Thomas Gore Auchincloss Jr. and Nina\u2019s sons Ivan and Hugh Steers, meanwhile, acted as pages.<\/p>\n<p>Jackie&#8217;s brother Hugh Jr. got along with JFK<\/p>\n<p>Jackie\u2019s older brother Hugh Jr. was not only close to the first lady, but to her late husband as well.<\/p>\n<p>According to his daughter Maya, the two men hit it off after being introduced by Jackie over dinner, despite her misgivings about their opposing political parties.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe was living in Washington and invited my father over for dinner this wonderful evening,\u201d Maya recounted to the Associated Press. \u201cShe [told Hugh Jr.], \u2018Now, you should remember Jack\u2019s a Democrat and you\u2019re a Republican. Be careful what you say.\u2019 \u201d<\/p>\n<p>She continued, \u201cBut it went very smoothly. She made a nice dinner, and [Hugh Jr.] made drinks that then became a favorite of Jack\u2019s.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jackie had at least 12 nieces and nephews<img alt=\"President John F. Kennedy Jr., Jackie was an aunt to her brothers\u2019 and sisters\u2019 children, of which there are at least 12.<\/p>\n<p>Her oldest brother, Hugh Jr., had two children, twins Maya and Cecil, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newportri.com\/story\/news\/local\/2015\/08\/26\/pieces-hammersmith\/12770504007\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:The Newport Daily News;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">The Newport Daily News<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Lee welcomed son Anthony and daughter Anna Christina with her ex-husband Prince Stanislas \u201cStash\u201d Radziwill. Notably, JFK was Anna Christina&#8217;s godfather, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newspapers.com\/article\/clarion-ledger-jackie-and-hugh-d-auchin\/14059152\/?locale=en-US\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:The Clarion-Ledger;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">The Clarion-Ledger<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Anthony went on to become an award-winning TV producer and married his wife <a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/tag\/carole-radziwill\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Carole Radziwill;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">Carole Radziwill<\/a> in 1994. He died at age 40 from cancer on Aug. 10, 1999, and Carole later joined <a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/real-housewives-of-new-york-city-cast-where-are-they-now-7495908\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:The Real Housewives of New York;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">The Real Housewives of New York<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Nina and her first husband, politician Newton Ivan Steers Jr., welcomed three sons together: Hugh, Ivan and Burr.<\/p>\n<p>Hugh was a figurative painter whose work has been exhibited in the Whitney Museum of Modern Art, per <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/1995\/03\/04\/obituaries\/hugh-steers-32-figurative-painter.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:The New York Times;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">The New York Times<\/a>.
