NASHVILLE — John Gibson<\/a> left after the first period for the Detroit Red Wings in a 4-2 win against the Nashville Predators at\u00a0Bridgestone Arena on Monday because of an upper-body injury.<\/p>\n

The 32-year-old goalie allowed one goal on 11 shots in the first period. He was replaced by\u00a0Cam Talbot<\/a>, who stopped 18 of 19 shots in relief.<\/p>\n

Red Wings coach Todd McLellan said that Gibson would be evaluated further when the team returns to Detroit.<\/p>\n

“Well, obviously he didn’t return after the first,”\u00a0McLellan said. “Right at the end of the period he took a shot up high into the shoulder area, and it was kind of like a stinger, if you will. When you get those you don’t get the feeling back right away. I think he’s OK now. He’s walking around, but we’ll have him looked at when we get home.”<\/p>\n

Talbot, who allowed five goals on 36 shots in a 5-2 loss at the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday,\u00a0said he found out about halfway through the first intermission that he was going into the game.<\/p>\n

“About nine or 10 minutes left on the clock in the first intermission,” Talbot said. “I knew that [Gibson] was in some discomfort, so I just tried to stretch out and get ready just in case. And then got the official word around the 10-minute mark.”<\/p>\n

Gibson is 23-12-2 with a 2.57 goals-against average, .906 save percentage and four shutouts in 39 games this season. In 26 games since Dec. 2, he’s 19-5-1 with a 2.08 GAA, .925 save percentage and four shutouts.<\/p>\n

Gibson was traded to the Red Wings by the Anaheim Ducks on June 28 for goalie Petr Mrazek<\/a>, a fourth-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft and a second-round pick in the 2027 NHL Draft.<\/p>\n

In 545 NHL games (533 starts) with Detroit and Anaheim, Gibson is 227-229-65 with a 2.87\u00a0GAA, .910 save percentage and 28 shutouts.<\/p>\n

Talbot is 12-8-4 with a 3.04 GAA and .892 save percentage in 26 games (22 starts) this season.<\/p>\n
