At the Feb. 28 NAACP Image Awards<\/a>, Sinners actress Jayme Lawson<\/a> spoke to The Hollywood Reporter<\/a>, giving \u201ca big shout-out to Mike and Delroy\u201d for \u201cthe grace and the dignity that they exercised.\u201d<\/p>\n The incident involving Davidson shouting expletives during the Alan Cumming<\/a>-hosted telecast \u2014\u00a0which later led to apologies<\/a> from The British Academy of Film and Television Arts; the BBC<\/a>, which aired the ceremony; and Davidson himself<\/a> \u2014 \u201cexposed a couple of things,\u201d Lawson, 28, continued in comments<\/a> that have gone viral on social media.<\/p>\n Never miss a story \u2014 sign up for PEOPLE’s free daily newsletter<\/a> to stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer\u200b\u200b, from celebrity news to compelling human interest stories.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cInstitutionally, we still don\u2019t understand what inclusion means,\u201d she said. \u201cJust because you invite someone into a space, but you don\u2019t provide the necessary resources to keep them and everyone else in that room safe by them being there, that\u2019s not inclusivity. Jordan and Delroy Lindo at the Special Visual Effects Award at the EE BAFTA Film Awards on Feb. 22 Davidson\u2019s \u201cdisability got exploited that night, and it led to multiple offenses,\u201d Lawson continued, placing blame on BAFTA and the BBC, adding that the latter was \u201ccareless\u201d in editing out parts of the award ceremony broadcast but not the n-word. \u201cA real lack of care was exercised for those two Black men,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n \u201cWe know the BBC knows how to take care of what they care about because they censored a bunch of other [words]. They went so far as to make sure certain things weren\u2019t topics of conversation. They censored<\/a> Akinola [Davies Jr.]\u2019s speech, the director of My Father\u2019s Shadow, which is an amazing film, by the way. So you censored one Black man. You failed to protect two others,\u201d Lawson pointed out.<\/p>\n \u201cYou do not care for our dignity, our humanity,\u201d she concluded. \u201cYou want to celebrate our art, but you won\u2019t protect [us]. And that\u2019s why we celebrate Sinners. That\u2019s why we celebrate Ryan [Coogler]<\/a>. That\u2019s why we show up to the NAACP, because those are spaces\u2026 where we feel safe.\u201d<\/p>\n Sinners star Lindo, 73, told Vanity Fair<\/a> on the night of the BAFTA ceremony that he and Jordan, 39, \u201cdid what we had to do\u201d when they were on stage hearing Davidson\u2019s shouts, but admitted he wished \u201csomeone from BAFTA spoke to us afterwards.\u201d<\/p>\n Onstage at the NAACP Image Awards with Coogler, Lindo further commented<\/a>: \u201cI\u2019d just like to officially say, I appreciate, we appreciate all the support and love we have been shown in the aftermath of what happened last weekend. It means a lot to us.\u201d<\/p>\n At the Actor Awards<\/a> on Sunday, March 1, Sinners nominee Wunmi Mosaku<\/a> told Entertainment Tonight<\/a> that she has \u201cno hard feeling toward John Davidson at all,\u201d when asked about the incident.<\/p>\n BAFTA, she added, \u201chas a lot of lessons to learn, but\u2026 it felt exploitative and performative to have someone there without the full protection of everyone, including him, and anyone in that audience.\u201d<\/p>\n The BBC choosing \u201cto keep that in,\u201d the British actress said, was \u201cthe bit that really kind of kept me awake at night and brought tears to my eyes\u2026 I can\u2019t understand it and I\u2019m not sure I can forgive it.\u201d<\/p>\n Delroy Lindo and the cast of ‘Sinners’ at the Actor Awards on March 1 The Sinners cast earned multiple prizes this weekend, including an ensemble cast win at the NAACP Image Awards and another at The Actor Awards.
