(WMC) &#8211; The Women\u2019s Tennis Association has announced the \u201cMemphis Classic,\u201d a new professional tennis tournament set to take place in late July at the Leftwich Tennis Center.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The event marks the first time in nearly a decade that Memphis has hosted a professional tennis tournament. Organizers said the tournament is expected to attract top players as they prepare for the U.S. Open.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">John Gordon, CEO of Tennis Memphis, said the tournament represents a significant moment for the city.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cThis is a real opportunity to energize our entire community, and show our young people what excellence looks like demonstrated by the best athletes in the world,\u201d Gordon said. \u201cDelivering exciting moments in competition, that only tennis and sports can deliver.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The tournament is part of a multi-year deal.
