Booker stands a good chance of making All-NBA this season when taking into consideration the Suns are playing beyond preseason predictions and he\u2019s averaging a team-high 24.7 points and 6.1 assists.<\/p>\n
The Suns are seventh in the Western Conference ahead of that game, but just two games behind the Los Angeles Lakers (36-24) for sixth and trailing the Houston Rockets (38-22) by four for third.<\/p>\n

The top six teams in each conference make the playoffs, while teams seven through 10 battle in the play-in tournament for the seventh and eighth seeds.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think we can make push for sixth and go from there,\u201d Suns guard Jalen Green said.<\/p>\n
However, the numbers may not add up for Booker with the 65-game rule.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe fans want people to play,\u201d Booker said. \u201cWe should play. You should have to play to get the awards. So I don\u2019t see a problem with it other than guys trying to rush back and maybe prolong the injury from what it was supposed to be, but I think the rule is fine. You want to be able to play, to be out there.\u201d<\/p>\n

Booker missed Phoenix\u2019s last four games with a right hip strain he suffered in the first half on Feb. 19 against the San Antonio Spurs in Austin. He had missed seven consecutive games with a right ankle sprain, returned for two games before sitting out Phoenix\u2019s final game before the All-Star break.<\/p>\n
Booker participated in the NBA All-Star 3-point contest and U.S. vs. World All-Star tournament, but he felt discomfort with the hip in the first quarter against the Spurs. Booker tried to play through it in the second quarter, but he was unable to do so and was ruled out for the second half.<\/p>\n
Now set to return, Booker looks back at the hip strain as a \u201cblessing in disguise\u201d overall.<\/p>\n

\u201cTime for the ankle to heal properly,\u201d said Booker, who rushed back from the ankle injury to play before the break. \u201cYou don\u2019t know for sure, but could\u2019ve been overcompensating the hip trying to overwork for the ankle, but it\u2019s over with now. Both feel good. I\u2019m ready to go.\u201d <\/p>\n

The 65-game rule was implemented in the 2023-24 season with the intent to curb load management, where star players sit out occasional games. It\u2019s drawn criticism this season because two of the leading MVP candidates, Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Denver Nuggets big Nikola Jokic, may miss out on the award for failing to play the required number of games.<\/p>\n
Gilgeous-Alexander is at 51 games. Jokic stands at 46 games. Oklahoma City (47-15) and Denver (38-24) each have 20 games remaining.<\/p>\n
Gilgeous-Alexander can only miss six more games to stay award-eligible.<\/p>\n
Jokic has fewer DNPs to collect. If the three-time MVP is sidelined for two more games, he won\u2019t be eligible for end-of-season awards.<\/p>\n
