Authorities have apprehended a suspect after three women were found dead at two separate locations in Utah<\/a> on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

The suspect \u2013 whom authorities have not officially identified \u2013 was taken into custody early on Thursday morning after law enforcement \u201ctracked him in one of the victims\u2019 vehicles\u201d, the Utah<\/a> public safety department said in a statement.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe vehicle was tracked through southern Utah into northern Arizona and eventually into Colorado<\/a>,\u201d authorities said, noting that Colorado law enforcement located the vehicle abandoned in Pagosa Springs, Colorado. After a brief search, they \u201ctook the individual into custody without incident\u201d.<\/p>\n

Local media reported the suspect is a man from Iowa.<\/p>\n

It does not appear the suspect had any connection to the victims, said Lt Cameron Roden, a spokesperson for the Utah highway patrol.<\/p>\n

The Utah public safety department said the investigation is continuing while \u201cmembers of the Utah state bureau of investigation and the Utah crime lab process two crime scenes in the Lyman and Torrey area\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are no ongoing threats to the public, and investigators have no outstanding suspects,\u201d authorities added.<\/p>\n

In a news release earlier on Thursday, the Utah public safety department said<\/a> that authorities received a call on Wednesday afternoon reporting that two women had been found dead on a hiking trail. During the course of the investigation, a third woman was found dead at a residence in Wayne county.<\/p>\n

Officials said the first woman was in her 30s, the second in her 60s and the third in her 80s. The news release states that the victims\u2019 identifies are being withheld while next of kin notifications are underway.<\/p>\n

The husbands of the two women found dead on a hiking trail contacted police late on Wednesday after they found their wives\u2019 bodies, Roden said.<\/p>\n

The Utah public safety department said that it is investigating the case alongside local law enforcement agencies, and had said that \u201cmultiple scenes are being investigated and processed in Torrey and the surrounding areas\u201d.<\/p>\n

The Wayne county sheriff\u2019s office urged local residents in a statement<\/a> on social media on Wednesday evening to \u201ctake extra precautions, keep lights on, keep doors locked, remain home or with others this evening if possible\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cMultiple law enforcement agencies are currently in the area,\u201d the office said.<\/p>\n

The Wayne county school district also announced <\/a>on Wednesday night that \u201cout of an abundance of caution and concern for student and public safety\u201d its schools would be closed on Thursday and Friday \u201cdue to unfolding events in the county\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will also have counselors in place to support students when we are back in session next week,\u201d the school district said. \u201cWe will communicate updates as things unfold.\u201d<\/p>\n
