For the most part, the answer is \u201cyes.\u201d That is indeed enough to make \u201cPeaky Blinders: The Immortal Man\u201d a rollicking watch.<\/p>\n
Premiering in select theaters March 6 and on Netflix March 20, \u201cPeaky Blinders: The Immortal Man\u201d is a two-hour extended epilogue for Tommy Shelby (Murphy), after the events of the hit six season show.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n The script (penned by series creator Steven Knight,<\/a> who is also writing the next James Bond movie) is thin in places. At times, it\u2019s hard not to feel like the story is a hollowed out echo of the better show that \u201cPeaky Blinders\u201d once was.\u00a0<\/p>\n Cillian Murphy\u2019s Tommy Shelby finally gets an end to his story in \u201cPeaky Blinders.\u201d NETFLIX<\/p>\n Barry Keoghan is a natural addition to the \u201cPeaky Blinders\u201d world in the movie. NETFLIX<\/p>\n Despite its flaws, though, \u201cThe Immortal Man\u201d is a fitting end to the saga that became a global phenomenon.\u00a0It\u2019s not the best film, but it\u2019s a solid conclusion to Tommy\u2019s story, with a lot to enjoy.<\/p>\n The show launched the Oscar-winning actor into stardom, popularized his trendy haircut,<\/a> attracted celeb fans like David Bowie<\/a> and Brad Pitt,<\/a> and lasted for over a decade.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cPeaky Blinders\u201d originally premiered in 2013, and followed Tommy\u2019s rise from 1920\u2019s crime boss in Birmingham, England, to the halls of Parliament in the 1940s.\u00a0<\/p>\n Barry Keoghan plays Duke, Tommy\u2019s estranged son. NETFLIX<\/p>\n Barry Keoghan and Cillian Murphy shine on screen together. NETFLIX<\/p>\n The movie finds him in self-imposed exile after suffering lots of trauma over the course of the series, including the death of his daughter.\u00a0<\/p>\n Too bad for Tommy, he can\u2019t just be sad alone. Otherwise, that would be a boring movie. His estranged illegitimate son, Duke (previously played by Conrad Khan, recast as Barry Keoghan), is now leading the Peaky Blinders gang in Tommy\u2019s absence and causing mayhem.<\/p>\n It\u2019s up to Tommy to stop Duke. So, yes \u2013\u00a0 it\u2019s the classic plot of, \u201cthe gangster who wants to leave his life of crime gets reeled in for one last job.\u201d It\u2019s a basic set-up, but you see it in so many movies and shows because it\u2019s impactful.\u00a0<\/p>\n Tommy Shelby has become an iconic antihero. Keoghan does what he can to flesh him out, but the writing doesn\u2019t give him much to work with for the thinly drawn character. Still, the \u201cSaltburn\u201d actor is a natural addition to the \u201cPeaky Blinders\u201d world. He even looks like a mug shot of an old-timey gangster. Since he and Murphy are two of today\u2019s strongest Irish acting talents, it\u2019s electric when they share scenes (even when they\u2019re doing English accents).<\/p>\n
