\n\tChristina Applegate<\/a> recently appeared on \u201cThe View\u201d<\/a> to promote her new memoir, \u201cYou With the Sad Eyes,\u201d and she discussed how Will Ferrell<\/a> and Adam McKay<\/a> gave parts of their \u201cAnchorman<\/a>\u201d salaries to her when the studio\u2019s original offer for her to play Veronica Corningstone came in well below her male co-stars. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWhen they came in with the initial offer, it was, you know, a little offensive,\u201d Applegate noted. \u201cAnd I said I can\u2019t. I know my worth, and I can\u2019t do that. They wanted me bad enough, and they said, \u2018Well, we\u2019re gonna chip in.\u2019 Thank God they did because it was one of the best experiences of my entire life.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tApplegate continued, \u201cIt was such a lesson. I had never done improv before. Learning from that group of dudes\u2026 that is the masterclass that people pay for. Steve Carell, like, taught it. Adam McKay developed an entire new way of doing it with his group. To get in there and have that happen was absolutely magic and it\u2019s been invaluable to me and my career.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cAnchorman\u201d centers on Ferrell\u2019s San Diego news anchor Ron Burgundy as he clashes with his new female co-anchor (Applegate\u2019s Veronica Corningstone). The support cast includes Carell, Paul Rudd, David Koechner and Fred Willard. The movie is one of the most quoted comedies of the early aughts and spawned the 2013 sequel \u201cAnchorman 2: The Legend Continues,\u201d which also starred Applegate.<\/p>\n

\n\tApplegate and Ferrell reunited in 2024 on the former\u2019s podcast <\/a>to mark the 20th anniversary of the classic comedy. Ferrell remembered the first test screening for \u201cAnchorman\u201d and how it did not go according to plan due to an original ending that riffed on Patty Hearst\u2019s kidnapping by having Applegate\u2019s Veronica be \u201cabducted by a vigilante group.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe put the movie together, we do our first test screening. You test screen your movie and it\u2019s a score from zero to 100,\u201d Ferrell said. \u201cWe were like, \u2018That seemed to play pretty great.\u2019 We get the score back; it\u2019s a 50. Not good. It\u2019s not good. That can either go one way or the other. There\u2019s a panic button that\u2019s hit, or, luckily, the studio was like, \u2018Let\u2019s figure it out.\u2019 They gave us a budget for reshoots. Judd [Apatow] really helped to be a steady hand in that regard. And so all of that, the whole pandas and the bears and all that, that\u2019s five days of a reshoot. An entirely new ending was shot.\u201d<\/p>\n
