Travis Kelce<\/a> and Patrick Mahomes<\/a> may have had a down year on the field for the Kansas City Chiefs, but the longtime teammates scored a big victory in court on Monday, March 2, when a judge refused an emergency request to shut down their restaurant over a trademark dispute.<\/p>\n

Kelce, 36, and Mahomes, 30, opened their Kansas City restaurant, 1587 Prime, in September 2025, only to face a legal challenge in February of this year from sneaker brand 1587 Sneakers<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The sneaker company argued that their \u201c1587 Prime\u201d and \u201c1587\u201d marks could create confusion among customers and infringe on their brand. 1587 Sneakers sought to block the Chiefs teammates from advertising, selling or promoting products using those marks and to cancel any orders tied to the branding.<\/p>\n

U.S. District Judge Naomi Reice Buchwald pointed to a \u201csignificant delay\u201d by the plaintiff in seeking the emergency order five months after the restaurant\u2019s opening. She also noted there is \u201cno indication the complaint or supporting filings had been served on the defendants,\u201d according to a report from KMBC<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tTravis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes appear to be putting the final touches on their new steakhouse. In an Instagram carousel shared by Travis, 35, and Jason Kelce\u2019s joint account on Tuesday, May 27, the interior and exterior of Travis and Mahomes\u2019 1587 Prime was finally revealed. \u201cFirst look at Travis & Patrick\u2019s new steakhouse, 1587 [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n

The ruling does not dismiss the lawsuit, but as trademark attorney Josh Gerben told ESPN in February, 1587 Sneakers has their work cut out for them. Gerben does not represent either party in the case.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s a tough case for the sneaker company,\u201d he explained. \u201cTrademarks can coexist in different industries. \u2026 Given that the marks are essentially identical here, is a restaurant and a shoe company too close? Are consumers likely to be confused in thinking they are affiliated with one another?\u201d<\/p>\n

1587 Sneakers co-founder Adam King told ESPN at the time that he hoped the two parties could come to an agreement \u201camicably.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cFrom the onset, we have communicated a sincere belief that there is room for mutual respect and understanding,\u201d he said in a statement. \u201cThat belief has not changed, and we continue to hope to resolve this matter amicably.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kelce and Mahomes\u2019 legal victory came just two days before ESPN\u2019s Chiefs reporter Nate Taylor reported that Kelce would return to the team<\/a> for the 2026 season. The tight end has openly contemplated retirement the last two seasons.<\/p>\n

Taylor continued, \u201cI know some people are like, \u2018If he hasn\u2019t really signed before free agency starts, how does that affect free agency?\u2019 I\u2019m like, \u2018Eh, it doesn\u2019t really affect free agency. They can allocate that money however they want.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
