Ever since he joined the cast in season two, Ryan Guzman\u2019s Eddie Diaz has become a beloved fan favorite on ABC\u2019s 9-1-1. The procedural drama draws from the real lives of first responders, giving audiences a front-row seat to the high-pressure experiences that firefighters, police officers, and dispatchers face on a daily basis.<\/p>\n

Tonight\u2019s new episode, \u201cDads and Cads,\u201d led into an epic crossover with 9-1-1: Nashville, which has Eddie and Buck (Oliver Stark) heading to the city to compete in this year\u2019s firefighter games. It is revealed that they were entered by Bobby Nash (Peter Krause), their former Captain, before he died. <\/p>\n

\u201cI think it shows that Bobby has never left. His essence will always be with every character of the 118, and yeah, to have that trust come from Bobby before Eddie knew what was in store for himself and that faith that Eddie would be back in the 118, I think that was the driving force,\u201d he explained. \u201cI don\u2019t think Eddie from even the last episode, he\u2019s not one to be like, all right, well, let me showcase my talents, or let me showcase what I look like. He doesn\u2019t like that kind of notoriety. He\u2019s there to do the job. He\u2019s there to enjoy the family that he\u2019s working with, and I think without that, he would have said no to Nashville.\u201d <\/p>\n

Overall, season nine has given the character some really beautiful moments so far, highlighting not only Guzman\u2019s performance but also how Eddie has grown throughout the series. <\/p>\n

\u201cI would say the way he\u2019s handled obstacles this season is so different from prior seasons because he\u2019s not losing himself anymore, and he\u2019s living a little more in the happiness and gratefulness of life that he\u2019s received since post-mortem events in his life,\u201d he shared. \u201cI would say that is the biggest indicator that he\u2019s on a healthy journey now and that his demons aren\u2019t taking him down any further.\u201d<\/p>\n

As for next week\u2019s episode, Guzman describes it as a thriller, teasing that \u201cBuck and Eddie spend a lot of time together,\u201d and that the two of them \u201chave to take the long way home.\u201d He then added that \u201cso many times\u201d when they were \u201cfilming that episode specifically,\u201d they felt like it \u201ccould be its own TV show, to be honest.\u201d<\/p>\n
