Footage <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/reel\/DVg1gHKle1M\/?igsh=ZDZ6dzV5ZnRrNXNi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">posted on social media<\/a> shows state media presenter Mohammad Reza Shahbazi intimating the players were \u201ctraitors\u201d and saying they \u201cmust be dealt with more severely.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmmeyo3gi00033b6r2ou3s0px@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Sources tell CNN Sports that the players are under heavy guard and are constantly monitored by Iranian security, including by one man who is believed to be affiliated with Iran\u2019s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The players were pressured and ultimately forced to show support ahead of their 4-0 loss against Australia through threats on their families, the sources say.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmmeyo3gi00043b6ryyr4d7xo@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Ahead of the Australia match, Iran forward Sara Didar was emotional while speaking to the media, choking up with tears while speaking about the squad\u2019s families.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmmeyo3gi00053b6r5l3dq5a1@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cObviously, we\u2019re all concerned and we\u2019re sad at what has happened to Iran and our families in Iran,\u201d Didar said, <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/iran-soccer-womens-asian-cup-australia-d9f23186baad32bdcceb01952d02556f\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">according to the Associated Press<\/a>. \u201cI really hope for our country to have good news ahead. If the team wins by a large margin, it could theoretically still progress to the knockouts as one of the best third-place teams. If the Lionesses are eliminated though, it is expected they will return to Iran on Sunday.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmmeyo3gi00093b6r9kw4sukg@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Iranian Australian human rights advocate Tina Kordrostami told CNN Sports that the refusal to sing the anthem before the South Korea match took \u201cextraordinary courage.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmmeyo3gi000a3b6rbqhecf5y@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cFor many athletes around the world, refusing to sing a national anthem might be interpreted as a political gesture, but for Iranian athletes, it can carry very serious consequences,\u201d Kordrostami said. \u201cInside Iran, women athletes cannot freely criticize the regime. Their phones are monitored, their public speech is restricted, and even private communications can be scrutinized. Silence in that moment becomes one of the only ways they can communicate dissent to the world.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmmeyo3gi000b3b6rpqe40j00@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cIn many ways, that was their one moment on a global stage to express that something is deeply wrong.
