A number of major drugmakers have reportedly<\/a> raised the prices of hundreds of brand-name drugs, including some of the manufacturers that made deals with the Trump administration to lower prices.<\/p>\n

January is often the month of the year that companies roll out price increases for drugs, and all 16 of the major drug manufacturers that signed<\/a> deals with President Donald Trump as part of his administration’s push to lower drug prices for Americans have issued price hikes.<\/p>\n

Although, it is important to note that these price increases do not change the fact a limited supply of prescription drugs will still be offered at lower rates on Trump’s website, TrumpRx<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Why It Matters<\/p>\n

As Americans pay almost three times more for prescription drugs than patients in other wealthy nations, the Trump administration made tackling the cost of many popular drugs one of its key focuses. <\/p>\n

Trump said at the end of 2025 that he had secured deals with nine major drugmakers<\/a>\u00a0to reduce prices of prescription drugs for Medicaid and Medicare customers, to match the prices of what they’re sold at overseas on his TrumpRx platform from January 2026. <\/p>\n

Other deals were made too, bringing the total number of companies Trump made agreements <\/a>with to 16.<\/p>\n

However, despite these deals, drugmakers said the same month that they planned to raise the costs of U.S. prices on at least 350 branded medications and vaccines<\/a> by a median increase of 4 percent, according <\/a>to Reuters.<\/p>\n

\"\"What To Know<\/p>\n

At his recent State of the Union address, Trump took the opportunity to boast about his deals with major drug companies to lower the costs of a number of prescription drugs. <\/p>\n

He said<\/a>: “Costs were going to go way up and that’s what happened. And now I’m bringing them way down on health care and everything else. I’m also ending the wildly inflated cost of prescription drugs like has never happened before.”<\/p>\n

“I took prescription drugs, a very big part of health care from the highest price in the entire world to the lowest. That’s a big achievement,” he added. <\/p>\n

While it is the case that Trump’s website TrumpRx will be offering a selection of prescription drugs for reduced prices to eligible consumers, elsewhere on the market, costs of some of these drugs and many others are going up. <\/p>\n

According<\/a> to the drug price research firm, 46brooklyn, by February 2026, nearly <\/a>1,000 drugs had gone up in price, with 931 brand price increases, although the firm said <\/a>that this was “pretty consistent” with changes in January in previous years.<\/p>\n

Notable Drugs Seeing Price Increases In 2026<\/p>\n

According<\/a> to 46brooklyn, here are a few of the highest, and most notable increases to drug prices in 2026:<\/p>\n

Some drugs though have dropped in cost. 46brooklyn said <\/a>that 20 medications went down in price, notably the Eliquis oral tablet, which went down in cost by 43 percent, and the Jardiance oral tablet which went down 44.4 percent. <\/p>\n
