{"id":508674,"date":"2026-03-07T05:55:14","date_gmt":"2026-03-07T05:55:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/508674\/"},"modified":"2026-03-07T05:55:14","modified_gmt":"2026-03-07T05:55:14","slug":"bruce-johnston-leaves-the-beach-boys-after-60-years","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/508674\/","title":{"rendered":"Bruce Johnston leaves the Beach Boys after 60 years"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Bruce Johnston has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/beach-boys-bruce-johnston-leaving-band-1235524796\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">left the Beach Boys<\/a> after 60 years, leaving Mike Love as the only touring members left from the band\u2019s 1960s heyday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s time for Part Three of my lengthy musical career!\u201d the 83-year-old singer and instrumentalist told Rolling Stone.<\/p>\n<p>Johnston joined the California band in 1965, filling in for Beach Boys cofounder Brian Wilson during live shows. He <a href=\"https:\/\/pitchfork.com\/news\/bruce-johnston-leaves-beach-boys-after-six-decades\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">first recorded<\/a> with the group on the hit song \u201cCalifornia Girls,\u201d according to Pitchfork.<\/p>\n<p>Wilson, who died in June of last year, started the band in 1961 with his two brothers, Carl and Dennis, cousin Love and childhood friend Al Jardine, who remains a member of the band but does not tour.<\/p>\n<p>Johnston\u2019s writing credits with the Beach Boys include \u201cTears in the Morning,\u201d \u201cDisney Girls\u201d and \u201cSurf\u2019s Up.\u201d He also penned\u00a0 1974\u2019s \u201cDon\u2019t Let the Sun Go Down on Me\u201d for Elton John and \u201cI Write the Songs\u201d for Barry Manilow in 1975.<\/p>\n<p>He assured that music fans will hear from him again and said he\u2019s \u201cforever grateful to be a part of the Beach Boys musical legacy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Johnston said his future plans include speaking engagements, solo appearances and more.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI can write songs forever and wait until you hear what\u2019s coming!\u201d he teased.<\/p>\n<p>Johnston is said to have played around 6,000 shows with the Beach Boys.<\/p>\n<p>The remaining members have <a href=\"https:\/\/thebeachboys.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">six concerts booked<\/a> in Florida at the end of March.
