Ozzy Osbourne\u2019<\/a>s July 2025 death<\/a> was \u201ca surprise\u201d to his son Jack Osbourne, but a conversation they had weeks earlier hinted the 76-year-old rock legend was \u201cdone.\u201d\n<\/p>\n

Jack, 40, opened up about his famous father\u2019s final weeks on the March 4 episode of Jamie Kennedy\u2019s Hate to Break it to Ya podcast<\/a>, which eerily began with Ozzy\u2019s farewell performance<\/a> with Black Sabbath on July 5 in Birmingham, England.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n

The concert \u2014 the final milestone in the rocker\u2019s six-decade career \u2014 was so monumentous, Jack flew across the pond from Los Angeles with his family to attend Back to the Beginning, a benefit show that also featured Metallica, Guns N\u2019 Roses, Tool, Slayer, Pantera, Aerosmith\u2019s Steven Tyler, and Billy Corgan of the Smashing Pumpkins.\n<\/p>\n

The night before Jack flew back to the States, he recalled helping his father prepare for bed when Ozzy, looking at his reflection in the mirror, remarked, \u201cI think I\u2019m going to cut my hair off.\u201d When Jack asked why, Ozzy reasoned: \u201cI\u2019ve retired. I\u2019m not a rock star anymore.\u201d\n<\/p>\n

In hindsight, Jack now realizes \u201che was done. He was okay with his journey.\u201d\n<\/p>\n

Looking at it philosophically, Jack finds some peace in his dad’s words. \u201cI think we do have a choice to a degree,\u201d he explained to Kennedy, a family friend. \u201cIf you\u2019re sick, if your body\u2019s primed and in a place, where it\u2019s like, \u2018Hey, you\u2019ve got a choice here,\u2019 on a deep spiritual level, I do think that maybe rather consciously or subconsciously, you have a choice where you\u2019re like, \u2018Okay, I\u2019m ready to move on.\u2019\u201d\n<\/p>\n

But the Osbourne family was still shocked when the patriarch suffered a fatal heart attack on July 22, 2025. \u201cIt was a surprise for sure,” Jack said. “Obviously everyone knew he was sick\u2026 but we weren\u2019t expecting it to be as quick as it was.\u201d\n<\/p>\n

In fact, the day Ozzy passed began like any other. \u201cHe was up, he was doing his thing, had some breakfast, and that was it,\u201d Jack shared.\n<\/p>\n

In February, Jack told a similar story about Ozzy contemplating cutting his hair (and growing a beard) on Corgan\u2019s The Magnificent Others podcast<\/a>. However, at the time, the grieving son had difficulty recounting their conversation, stopping several times to collect himself as he cried.\n<\/p>\n

But a smile came over Jack’s face when he recalled how he responded to his dad’s shocking statement: “Shut the f— up! You’re always a rock star.”\n<\/p>\n
