Choinski lost in the main draw first round to Roberto Carballes Baena in five sets, 2-6 3-6 7-5 7-6 3-6.<\/p>\n<p>The 29-year-old has played at <a href=\"https:\/\/tennishead.net\/tag\/wimbledon\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Wimbledon<\/a> previously. However, this was on a wildcard basis.<\/p>\n<p>Choinski, who is currently competing at the Platzmann Open, spoke about the tournament he expected to qualify for before his 2024 <a href=\"https:\/\/tennishead.net\/tag\/us-open\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">US Open<\/a> run. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/GettyImages-2168604904-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Jan Choinski of Great Britain returns against Roberto Carballes Baena of Spain during their Men's Singles First Round match on Day One of the 2024 US Open at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center on August 26, 2024 in the Flushing neighborhood of the Queens borough of New York City.\" class=\"wp-image-316552\" \/>Photo by Matthew Stockman\/Getty ImagesJan Choinski expected to qualify for the French Open before the US Open<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to Talking Tennis, Choinski described how he had expected to qualify for the French Open before the US Open, due to his results on clay.<\/p>\n<p>Choinski said: \u201cWe were always joking that my best results usually come on the clay. So, in terms of that, [the] French Open should be the tournament to qualify and last year I didn\u2019t have the best preparation for the US Open.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI played Bonn, I played quarter-finals in Bonn. I came to the states a little bit early, practiced a little bit, played an exhibition tournament. I had proper matches, but not like a challenger match or something before that.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut in those couple of days I just started feeling good on the hard court. My serve was where it wanted to be, and then it just built up from there. I just started into the first match, was little bit so-so, wasn\u2019t really happy with how I played, although I got it over the line.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd then it just started developing into a dream run for me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When Jan Choinski defeated Joao Fonseca<\/p>\n<p>Back in November 2024, <a href=\"https:\/\/tennishead.net\/tag\/joao-fonseca\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Joao Fonseca<\/a> had not announced himself on the international stage.<\/p>\n<p>The young Brazilian star went on to do so, with <a href=\"https:\/\/tennishead.net\/the-prediction-that-carlos-alcaraz-instantly-made-after-watching-wimbledon-debutant-joao-fonseca-at-the-australian-open\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Carlos Alcaraz tipping the 18-year-old for big things<\/a> after a third round run at the Australian Open.<\/p>\n<p>Just two months prior, Jan Choinski defeated the Brazilian prodigy at the Estoril Open.
