REUTERS<\/p>\n<p>The Freehold Township, N.J. native bursted onto the scene at 17, making a run through the 2019 French Open that saw her not lose a set until her semifinal loss. However, things took a turn in her personal life after her father passed away suddenly from a heart attack in 2019.<\/p>\n<p>The following year in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, Anisimova, like Naomi Osaka, began talking about her mental health struggles and balancing that with the game of tennis.<\/p>\n<p>In 2020 and the years following, Anisimova never saw the success that she did as a teenager. The losses soon piled up and became too much, and she left the sport in 2023 for a mental health break.<\/p>\n<p>Anisimova\u00a0eventually started training again and returned to the tour last year.
